Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabiano and Camila Nogueira. Them and their team share their story with us below:
We are both originally from Brazil, but we met here. Fabiano started cutting hair when he was 16 years old. His mother insisted that he learned how to cut hair. She said “You can always cut hair because there will always be people with hair to be cut. It is also a profession that you can do anywhere in the world.” It’s as if she knew that at age 27 Fabiano would be moving to the US to start a new life. Here he worked at a few small barbershops and eventually opened his own in 2017 alongside his wife.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is never a smooth road. The challenges we face are the stepping stones to a new level. We had to learn how to operate a business, how to hire collaborators, how to handle clients, and how to keep going when a global pandemic hit. It is physically and mentally challenging, but we have grown, expanded and learned so much. It has all been worth it!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We would love for people to know how much we put ourselves into the shop. Fabiano is the master barber. He knows the trade. He possesses the skills to cut hair and beard. He has the personality that attracts and engages customers. He also fixes our vintage barber chairs, passes his skills down to our barbers, and changes our air filters. I work on the managerial side of our business. Marketing, accounting, licensing, product restocking, etc. However, I also sweep floors, fold towels, and take out trash. We also have a great team that helps us in anything we need! Alan, Cristofer, Dominic, Justin, Luis and Tyler are fantastic to work with and we are so grateful for them!
I would love for people to know more about our style. I would say that Barbearia is known for its laid-back style. We do traditional work with a contemporary twist. We honor the traditions of barbering and apply new skills to keep it current. I’m proud that we have built a barbershop that is eclectic, both in its style and clientele. We are honored that people trust us with their appearance!
We are currently looking for a place to open our second location.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Fabiano gets inspiration from the deep conversations with clients, his travels, the different people he meets during the travels and from other barbers around the world.
