Rising Stars: Meet Jay Hurt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Hurt.

Hi Jay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started out working in tech several years ago. While I was working in tech, I became a corporate coach for the company I was working for. I also became interested in supporting people in their relationship journey. During the time I was researching relationships, I found coach training, which is a bit different than coaching inside of an organization. I quickly found that this was a lane I wanted to pursue. I completed my first book about relationships, “The 9 Tenets of a Successful Relationship,” and I began coaching relationship clients. Also, I used the training in my coaching with my tech company and we got much better results. I knew that ultimately, my road would lead to coaching or some variation, full-time.

Fast forward a few years, I moved from Nashville to Atlanta to work for another tech company. After moving on to another role, I found the opportunity to become the COO of the Academy of Creative Coaching. ACC is the first black, female-owned ACTP level Coach Training company in the history of the International Coaching Federation. I was excited to take this role and we have grown the company several times over in the past 3 years. I enjoy coaching and I fully enjoy helping people grow and develop healthy relationships.

My newest project is The Confident Charismatic. This is my Youtube channel. Our focus is helping me develop confidence and charisma, to be able to engage the women they would like to approach, develop the leadership skills they would like to have and ultimately have the qualities of a charismatic man and leader in every facet of their lives. We’re growing each day and we’re sharing ways to develop qualities and skills that are game-changing for every man looking to enhance his social skills.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We have certainly had obstacles. I got married right before the opportunity in Atlanta presented itself and my wife and I had a tough decision to make on moving to Atlanta. It wasn’t easy, but I think we can say we’re very happy we took the leap of faith and did it. There has been a time when I was unemployed when transitioning from one role to the next role. I think keeping the belief in each other and faith in God that it will all work out in our favor has been important in working through challenges like a few months between jobs. The struggles have made us appreciate the good times even more.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As the Chief Operating Officer of the Academy of Creative Coaching, my job is to make sure our day-to-day operations run as efficiently and effectively as possible. My value in this role really comes from my belief in our team and empowering others. When you have great teammates, I think as leaders, we want to minimize our authority and maximize the ability for the team to be creative and empowered. When you facilitate this mindset, you get more teammates who value their job, take pride in their company and they go above and beyond for you because they realize how much they are valued and appreciated. I’m proud of what our team accomplishes every day and I’m excited about what the future holds for our company.

What sets me apart is that it’s important for me to follow my guiding principles. I work to live up to my values, continually develop better character and put others in the best position to succeed. If I can achieve this in each of my endeavors, I’m happy at the end of the day.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Technology is always shifting. Coaching will shift with it. Whether I’m coaching a couple through marriage challenges or coaching a gentleman on how to develop his confidence, I think in the next five years, we’ll still be having conversations online. Maybe we’ll develop some artificial intelligence to help me track someone’s level of confidence, I’m not sure about that one. At our core, I expect coaching and coach training will still be the same basic premise it is today.
