Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Bahamon and Jennifer Cifuentes.
Edgar and Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After working several years in restaurants, my wife and I thought about becoming business owners with a unique product and exceptional service for the people of the United States. As we are Colombians we thought of a product that is known as one of the best, coffee. When doing market research together with our business plan, we found that there was not quality Colombian coffee in the area and that became our idea. Serving quality Colombian coffee with the best service.
We have made it our aim to maintain two big goals for our business: create the best cup of coffee and provide personalized service. Alongside, we hope to teach our guests the different ways of preparing coffee, the different regions of Colombia, and the importance of flavors, fragrances, and aromas that make up that perfect cup of coffee.
Since the moment we began to today, we have dedicated ourselves to make our guests feel at home. Whether they want to read, want to play, find a place to relax, listen to music, or get a drink with that special someone; whatever it is a guest may want, we want to ensure they always find these moments accompanied with the best cup of coffee.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Setting out at first with our proposal for Tinto’s, we thought having a unique local business would make the process of finding a location easier. However, we came across some landlords that did not give opportunities to new ideas, new projects, or to young entrepreneurs. They always wanted big companies with little risk.
But we believe things always happen for a reason. After several months, despite the rejection, we found the right person who believed in us and gave us a place in which we have had the opportunity to fulfill our dreams.
Our more recent obstacle has been reaching people in the community that do not know about us. We have donated much of our product and participated in community events, but it has been difficult to reach the entire market of students, businessmen, community influencers, etc. that we hope to invite as our guests.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Tinto’s Coffee House is the best place in Kennesaw to enjoy a 100% Colombian specialty coffee cup. Our experienced Baristas are always happy to let you live an experience of flavors, aromas, and tastes around a delicious cup of the best coffee in the world. We blend our best coffee beans and bring single origin coffee blends directly from the farm to your table. Our signature drink named “Tinto” is a traditional Colombian prepared beverage… A mix of flavors combine sweetness, fruit and fresh notes that connects you with the coffee’s origins. Traceability with our products, knowledge about Coffee Culture, connection with the origin and interaction are values we wish to share with our guests.
We are most proud to see our guests are happy and share “a home away from home”. We are intentional about being personal with all who come in order to understand our guest and fix them exactly what they want to drink depending on their mood.
What were you like growing up?
My wife, Jennifer, and I grew up in traditional, united families where our parents raised us to believe in God. We studied in a Catholic school for children from military families. My wife and I had fathers who worked as Colonels under the Colombian Army. Due to the mobility of a military career, we had the opportunity to know several regions of Colombia and their cultures.
We always had a dream: being able to have our own business. My wife graduated as an Industrial Microbiologist and I graduated as a Management Business Administrator. With our experience and ideas, we decided to form a team from our family (My brothers Carlos and Juan, my sister Maria Andrea, my sister-in-law Johana, my brother-in-law Luis) to pull from their diverse specialties and expertise to consolidate our ideas into a good business plan.
When we lived in Colombia, my wife used to drink coffee, but I did not drink much. I took it with milk and sugar. When we started with this project and began to understand the culture and everything that surrounds the subject of coffee, I learned to enjoy all the flavors and aromas that coffee produces.
