Meet Ashley Heard of A. Heard Creates in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Heard.

Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I would say I was around 4 years old when I first became interested in art. My father was secretly really good at drawing, so I would see him sketching from time to time and couldn’t help but be intrigued. There was just something so amazing to me about being able to create something out of nothing. When I was young, art was just something that I enjoyed, but never really thought too much about. A few years ago, I met another artist, who really changed my perspective on art and encouraged me to pursue it fully. At that moment, I realized that I had been given this gift for a reason and that I needed to share it with the world. That was the birth of A. Heard Creates.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth, but definitely rewarding. Being an artist or any type of creative, you have to be confident in your work and your abilities. You have to understand that some people will love your work, and there may be some people who don’t like it, and that’s okay. Another thing that I’ve learned is that you have to know your worth. Nobody knows the amount of time or money that you spend on your craft, so you always have to keep that in mind when people are requesting your services. Lastly, never let anyone talk you out of your path even if they don’t understand it. Your vision was given to you for a reason, so you have to trust yourself and whatever higher power you believe in.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with A. Heard Creates – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
A. Heard Creates specializes in visual art, specifically drawing and painting. The mediums that I use most frequently include oil, acrylic, graphite, and charcoal. My specialty has been portrait painting and sketching but I also create abstract work as well. People may know me for creating portraits with a spin. A lot of times, I try to think outside of the box and tell a story through my work. Whether it’s the colors I use or the actual figures in the painting, my goal is to always do something to make my pop. One thing that I am most proud of is the continued support, that’s what keeps me going.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The thing that I love most about Atlanta is definitely the food. There are so many amazing options, and I love food so its perfect. The thing I like the least is the traffic. It really doesn’t matter the time of day anymore, there’s just a lot of traffic for no reason.
