Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Gardner.
Ashley, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m a mom to three, wife to an amazing man and I’m a photographer! We just moved to Georgia recently from California and we have definitely loved and welcomed this change!
I started photography when my first child was born and I wanted to take photos of her with more than just my phone. I quickly fell in love with photographing and editing images and finally (with the push of family & friends!) decided to take the leap and start my business. Throughout the last two years, I have met some truly amazing friends and clients. I love my job and feel so incredibly blessed to be able to do something that sets my soul on fire. The feeling I get from being able to capture so much love and beauty during my sessions is indescribable.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Family, maternity and newborns are truly where I feel the most at home with my photography.
I strive to capture the true emotion, connection, and realness in all of my photographs. I always photograph each family as if I were taking photos of my own to hang on my walls. I want them to have those moments that are frozen in time. The way their baby’s nose crinkles when he laughs, the way her husband looks at her when she’s snuggling their babies, the wrinkly little feet and fingers of a sweet newborn baby or the first kiss after a long deployment. Every sweet little detail, every ordinary moment is so incredibly important to capture, and I feel deeply honored that so many amazing families have trusted me to be there for all of that.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Everybody starts somewhere! Even though I only started my business two years ago, I’ve realized there is a lot of competition in this community and people tend to get focused on trying to be the best and forget to be kind and uplifting to others. I wished when I first started I would have put myself out there more and tried to get more involved in local photography groups and get-togethers! I was so nervous about being a new photographer, I kept to myself a lot and didn’t interact with other creatives in my area (or even on social media). I definitely wish I would have!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
All of my work can be found on my Facebook and Instagram.
During my first year of being in business, I was nominated for “Best Photographer” when I lived in California and placed 2nd. I also entered the Shoot and Share contest and for my first year being a part of that two of my photos placed in the finals round and seven of my images made it in the top 10%.
