Meet Trailblazer Sheila Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Lee.

Sheila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a kid, I thought I would design clothes. My mom sewed all my childhood and assumed I could too. HA! Not so much. I tried and did not enjoy it. Loving beauty and fashion since 7th grade when Brenda put mascara on me after gym on the bleachers. Pow! I loved the transformation and feeling. Then, later when a friend asked me to put her store-bought hair color on her. Ohhhh, how fun and loved seeing what I could do for someone. Cosmetology school was in my near future and I could explore many avenues in the industry. Doing makeup and hair for film, educating with a global product company and photo shoots, my passion grew. My purpose was to listen to and hear women’s stories. I needed a private intimate location where we could talk openly(without an audience) and I could focus all my attention to the woman sitting in my chair.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Learning more about myself and growing, I would say yes to a lot. I have learned to say no is just as important. Every road I ventured that may have been smooth or not has made me who I am today. I enjoy the sense of adventure and know when to walk away when I have learned what I need to from it. Balance early on was a struggle. So, not a believer in balance, I do recognize a rhythm. My rhythm now can change and I am very open to that.

If I knew then not to compare myself to what others were doing, I would have saved some piece if mind. “Comparison is the thief of joy” I know now everyone’s journey is their own. Be where my feet are and enjoy each moment.

We’d love to hear more about The color spot salon.
I specialize in each woman who chooses to sit in my chair to bring out her glam. One client at a time, my focus is solely on her story. Being a certified life strategies coach, we can move through any obstacles she is experiencing in her world. She leaves looking fabulous with a strategy to reach her life’s goals.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I am an optimist. I believe all possibilities are available. Know who you are and maintain your values. Authenticity catapults one forward. Believe in your ideas and yourself especially when others have difficulty believing in them.
