Meet Sherlynda Fitzpatrick of Haus of Face Makeup Artistry in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherlynda Fitzpatrick.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sherlynda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been into makeup since I was little. I would sit and watch my mother get ready for work, and I was fascinated by her doing her makeup. I couldn’t wait to be able to wear makeup for myself, which was my senior year of high school. I was always watching fashion shows and looking through magazines like Essence, Ebony, Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar and looking at the makeup and the clothes. I always got compliments on my makeup, but I didn’t start applying makeup to other people until I got to college at Jackson State University, where I was on the modeling squad. I applied to work at MAC Cosmetics while in college, but didn’t get the job. After graduation, I moved to Atlanta, and I began to apply at cosmetic counters, while in chiropractic school. I worked for Fashion Fair, and after years of trying, I finally got hired to work for MAC Cosmetics, which was a dream of mine. Since then, I’ve done numerous fashion shows, including my first NY Fashion Week this past September. My work has been featured on television, including the WEtv show, “House of Curves.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not!!! Lol!!! I first applied to work for MAC when I was in college, and I didn’t get hired until 14 years later. This is during the time before being a makeup artist was “the thing.” When I worked at Fashion Fair, because that brand has a VERY LOYAL customer base, usually more mature, I had to make the customers trust me and my expertise. They also taught me to really listen to their wants, needs, and concerns. At MAC, it was a little different, because the customers were a little younger, but still needed our expertise. Once you gain their trust, they’ll try anything you show them.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Haus of Face Makeup Artistry story. Tell us more about the business.
Haus of Face is my freelance makeup business. I specialize in beauty and editorial makeup. I’m known for my polished and creative looks, as well as my vast product knowledge. I immerse myself in the makeup and fashion industry, so I’m ALWAYS studying what’s going on in fashion and the makeup associated with it. I love to make my clients look like the best version of themselves, but also add a creative touch to my work.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say that it’s luck, but I will definitely say that I’ve been blessed with the opportunities that I’ve had. I remember Tyra Banks saying that whenever you’re on set, be nice to EVERYONE!!! Especially in the fashion industry, because word gets around, and having a bad attitude will keep you from getting work. I don’t mind standing my ground, but there’s a way to do it without being mean.
