Meet Marlaina “Marlie” Williams of Dangerous Woman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlaina “Marlie” Williams.

Marlaina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Dangerous Woman in 2016, and I originally intended for it to be a clothing line. I tried that out for a few months and realized that while I enjoyed fashion, it wasn’t my passion or a part of my purpose. So I converted the brand into a lifestyle and entertainment brand, that promotes for and advertises to young, enterprising, and sociable women.

I review creatives works by women as well as interview Dangerous Women. In 2019, I will be rolling out two more segments of the brand to begin creating more of a community on and offline. This month I unveiled the Dangerous Woman Podcast. I am really excited about that because it is something I have been working on for a while now.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. It has been smooth in terms of me being able to create, and learn about how I wanted the brand to be represented. I always had an understanding of that. It has been fun playing with different ways to get that message across. Dangerous Woman is a very punchy attention-grabbing name, but the underlying meaning is not always in your face. I love that. Someone once said to me, “Is it so Dangerous that I might die?” I thought that was funny! I have really enjoyed the slow progression of building the brand out.

What hasn’t been smooth is staying disciplined and consistent despite what may be happening in my personal life. I have been a one-woman team for a long time. I have tried to add people on and to say the least I haven’t been very successful with that. Now I have a team growing for the podcast, and that’s been great! There are other areas that I hope to be able to develop a team for as well, but like I said. It’s been hard. So if I am sick, have an emergency with family, or need a mental break to deal with other personal issues there’s no work getting done.

2018 has been my most consistent year, and yet still I only had about eight or nine months on the books being relatively consistent. I am learning now how rewarding it is to continue to rally even when you are not motivated. I had already begun working on new content for 2019 December 2018, so I’m more prepared to conquer that struggle!

Please tell us about Dangerous Woman.
Dangerous Woman is a lifestyle and entertainment brand that promotes for and advertises to young, enterprising, and sociable women. I mainly target entrepreneurial, and business minded women who may need that extra push or reminder of how fierce and bad-ass they really are. Sometimes you need to see other women who have done or are doing it to stir up inspiration and drive in yourself. I find that it works for me.

So, I created a platform to provide that for women like me as well. I review a multitude of creative projects and industries, but my favorite is music. I also conduct interviews with Dangerous Women, The brand itself tells a story that is meant to motivate, inspire, and call women to action. I particularly specialize in media, branding, content development, and journalism which helps significantly in managing and developing this brand.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media and a Master of Arts in Integrated Global Communications. Additionally, I have worked overseas and in the U.S. in many communication arts and media roles. I really do sleep, eat, and breath the stuff in my career and for fun!

As a company, I am most proud of how much of a connection has been made with our audience. Dangerous Woman is two years old, which is fairly young. Yet, so many women have already reached out and identify with the message this brand carries. That has and will always be very important to me. I love to have conversations with the people that engage with the brand.

I’m a real person who genuinely wants to help, and guide young ambitious women to success. In fact, we are on the journey together! That’s what sets me apart. I’m never speaking from the point of view that I know it all and that I’m up here while you’re down there. This is ultimately a women’s empowerment brand that practices, not preaches. We are all learning together! I want to share my stories and the stories of other women to prove it.
