Life and Work with Miranda Marshall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Marshall.

Miranda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story starts at Georgia Southern University where I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Public Relations. Toward the end of my college journey, I took many social media related courses that sparked a fire in me. Following graduation, I landed a job with an Infertility clinic in their Marketing Department. For two years, I absorbed all the knowledge I could from developing strategies and executing efforts with my team. Toward the end of this experience, I was inspired to start my own social media management company. At the time, my business was named M. Marshall Media. I operated under this name for two years before rebranding to Occipital Media last year!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A lot of lessons have been learned along the way! I have found that by working for myself, I have grown not only professionally, but as an individual as well. Every experience I encounter, success or failure, is an opportunity for growth. My initial advice is to surround yourself with a community that cultivates an uplifting, entrepreneurial spirit. To be an entrepreneur, to me, is a lifestyle and to have individuals that have a common understanding and challenge me to level up has been extremely powerful.

Please tell us about Occipital Media.
Occipital Media is a Social Media Agency that specializes in starting a conversation between local businesses and their target audiences through content creation, engagement, and post management. We believe there is power in people. Especially when we connect with each other. Innovation happens. Inspiration happens. Business takes off.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
It is important to stay true to who you are as a person and keep in mind this will be ever changing if you are consistently challenging yourself to level up! Don’t say yes to an opportunity because of the paycheck, say yes because you truly resonate with the brand and feel passionate about helping them succeed with your services. Be mindful of all you are saying yes to! In the start, I was eager and have since better defined my bandwidth and ideal client to work with.
