Today we’d like to introduce you to Allen Thomas.
Allen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been making music for the last 10 or so years, the last eight years being largely hip hop/soul music. I started making instrumentals seriously four years ago and since late last year, I’ve been playing beats on the street.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not a smooth road at all. Many personal losses. Lots of closed doors. Having to refocus and recalibrate. Being broke. hahahahaha anything you can think of.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about thefamilyorchestra – what should we know?
I am a part of the group “thefamilyorchestra” with my partner Niah Lyrical we also have a frequent collaborator and our DJ/producer Nahncnenz. We make hip hop music that has an affinity for honesty and vulnerability within lyrics and soulful production. I believe our biological makeup makes us stand out. There aren’t many male/female musical duos in hip hop right now (at all actually).
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My manager has made the biggest personal impact in the direction of my business. He’s kept us in a solid direction and focused when things got frustrating.
