Meet Emmanuel Nkolo of Neighborhood Rejects in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmanuel Nkolo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Emmanuel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It was a long journey to even get to where I am in life right now. Before the brand that is now known as Neighborhood Rejects, me and my team had to start individually. This meant perfecting our craft and networking to build clientele. For me, I started out designing clothes. From there (in order), I became a stylist, model, creative director, and then film director. Trying out all these ventures, developed my eye for detail and color. Once I titled myself as a director, I knew I would need a team with me to eventually handle bigger budgets and productions (I really had to have a vision of the future). Luckily for me, we all knew each other separately before joining so when I approached them with the idea, they were all on board. Since then, we’ve really built our brand and are now shooting videos every few days. The sky’s the limit for us and what we are about to accomplish!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been challenging in the beginning. Not everyone saw eye to eye on the original purpose of the group. We also lacked a lot of necessary equipment and had to rent from other people. Even as a director, I was still new to the role to I always had to take more time to learn the basics of film so I would know the language while on set. We were mentally everywhere but luckily we talked it out and got back on track.

Please tell us about Neighborhood Rejects.
Our business specializes in video production. We can create music videos, commercials, event recaps, short films, and so much more. We are known for having such a big team and that sets us apart from the other filmmakers in the Atlanta area. My role in the team is director. This means that I get to control the visual’s artistic and dramatic aspects, and visualize the script while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision. I am proud of how we communicate as a team. We really treat each other as family so it’s all love at the end of the day.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is traveling out of the country for the first time ever. My parents took me and my younger brother to Nigeria to visit my family. It was also a big culture shock too. I thought I knew everything there was to know about being African because of the language my parents spoke (Igbo). I adjusted quickly and had a blast with my cousins. Especially playing soccer all afternoon long. Greatest Christmas break ever.
