Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Brothers RN, BSN.
Leslie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been interested in the skin care field since I first became a client of Georgette Klinger when I was 16 years old in Miami. Ms. Klinger was a pioneer in bringing boutique skin care to the upper scale areas of the top cities in the USA. She was passionate about her skin care treatments and products. If you were going to continue to abuse your skin by tanning and skipping appointments for monthly facials and not using her skin care products routinely, she would invite you to leave. She catered to the upper crust of society and the models and celebrities. The results spoke for themselves.
I attended Boston College Nursing School. I enjoyed the program and learned all of the fundamentals but found myself drawn to the preventive and cosmetic areas of the medical field. After I graduated I felt the need to further my nursing career in the areas of ICU. I felt that developing a strong clinical foundation was imperative before branching out into a secondary setting. I worked in the intensive care units at the University of Miami, Duke University and locally at Scottish Rite. I opened my skin care practice at St. Joseph’s Hospital with a well respected plastic surgeon in 1996. Medical lasers and skin care were in their infancy at that time. Finally I realized this was my true passion. Incorporating all of the medical experience I had in my aesthetic skin care clinic was the absolute ideal setting for me.
After 20 years I decided to leave the hospital campus and open my own medical skin care boutique in the heart of Buckhead under the supervision of the finest doctors . HBB was born November 2013.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth is not exactly the adjective I would use in descibing starting this business. Although I had many years to perfect my clinical skills ….I had zero business experience. Ignorance is bliss. I was just so excited about taking what I had been doing to the next level. HBB was once just an idea in my head. I was recently single, 48 years old and had three daughters. They were 11, 13 and 14 when I was planning this. They have always been responsible for adding color to my life…and HBB was no different. They thought we needed to add bright orange and pink color to my very white clinical design. They were patient as I attended multiple meetings that cut into their time with me….they even taught me some basic computer skills. Working with builders, designers, creating a logo, applying for permits, repecting a budget, hiring staff, setting up a website….. finances, technology, social media….. are just some of the many challenges I faced. I feel a bit like I got my MBA on my own. There were many people who helped me along the way and I am forever grateful. The doctors as well have been there every step of the way and couldn’t be more supportive. Their quality and expertise have given HBB the quality few others have in this setting.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
HBB is an aesthetic medical bouitque. It is conveniently located in the middle of Buckhead and offers the highest quality of service. We care about our clients. The “relationship” is a huge part of our objective. Together we design a treatment plan and in the process develop a compassionate, trusting and loyal bond. Traditional Facials, Peels, Waxing, Botox, Facial Fillers, Kybella, Teeth Whitening, Lasers( to treat a variety of conditions: hair removal, vascular, acne, hyperpigmentation or age spots, reddness/rosacea, lines and wrinkles ect). We offer a variety of skin care products for use at home. Our Aestheticians are the best I’ve ever had in all my years in this business. They are professional, effective and provide a welcoming atmosphere. Quality….that is what sets us apart. I think the quality starts with the physical structure of HBB, continues with the consistency of employees and of course ultimately is revealed in the result that is delivered. Our physicians are involved in the development of all of the policies and procedures at HBB. They closely monitor and approve all of the procedures being done . Dr. Gary A. Ludi, Chief of Staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital, is our Medical Director. Continuing education is a priority for all of us. Staying abreast of new techniques and advancements in the field is of utmost importance to all of us. I am most proud of the impact HBB has had on the lives of our clients and employees. The employees have worked hard and have enjoyed the development process and have formed great realtionships with each other and with our patients. The patients enjoy the experience they have here. Some drop by even when they dont have a treatment scheduled. They “ll grab a coffee and chat on their way to do their errands. It’s great that they enjoy us as much as we enjoy them. This has been a lesson for sure…. a really great one. I could not have given my daughters a better one. I now have 2 in college and one is a high school junior. They have seen the demands of starting a business and still being there for your family. Proud is an understatment of how I feel when I pull up to HBB everyday.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is a great place for this business. It is still growing tremendously and that means the demand for these services will increase as well. There are a lot of people in the music and film industry here. Also social media and television promote these services more regularly than years ago. Noninvasive procedures such as Botox and Fillers have become more of a maintenance routine. People are doing these treatments more often. They like the convenience of a quality care center that is more accessable and inviting. Many teens are starting to engage in routine skin care products and treatments for acne and preventative care. The dermatologist use to be the only option for a young teen with acne. This usually meant taking routine oral antibiotics. In extreme cases that is still an option, however, routine skin treatments including laser and topical products that are not absorbed systemically are definitely the way to start. HBB offers that. Usually the acne is greatly reduced if not gone altogether. Additionally they have learned healthy habits of caring for their skin as they do their body, teeth, eyes, ect.
