Today we’d like to introduce you to Thea Jones.
Thea Jones was first introduced to the bass by her father at the age of seven, this instrument ignited her interest in music and led her to the guitar. Jones was born in Saginaw, Michigan but grew up in the East Atlanta area of Georgia. Throughout her youth, she was surrounded by music in both school and church and was quickly drawn into the family tradition. A self, industry, and mentor taught musician and classically trained vocalist, Jones looks to the influences of jazz, soul, hip-hop, and folk for her inspiration in a hybrid genre that can only be described as SoulFolk. As a performer her entire life, some would describe her as a “natural” but those who know Jones best would say that she is an individual with a calling. She has responded to that call since the age of 16 by vocal training many aspiring singers from a cappella groups, Teens & youth, church choirs, and even those looking for better karaoke skills. Characteristically her music incorporates uplifting lyrics with passionate riffs and original melodies. These days when she is not busy working on placements for film and television, she is hosting and performing at music events and shows all throughout Atlanta. Her vision is clear and supportive of a world where the music industry helps artists build long-lasting careers. Hoping to bring a little more light and love to this world Thea Jones continues to pursue the path of a singer, writer, and musician and is always open to positive opportunities that promote the growth of both her brand and others involved.
Has it been a smooth road?
The journey hasn’t always been easy but it hasn’t been too complicated either. When you can identify with your passion and practice, the road only gets smoother. Six years ago I was 18 and I had just severed the ties I had with my father as my manager/agent/performance coach. This was a big step for me seeing how he has been fundamental to my career since the age of seven. I knew nothing could truly prepare me for what the industry had waiting and I figured well it’s now or never. Little did I know being an independent artist is a long, inconsistent process and it would always be now or never. Over time I adapted to the flow and began seeing obstacles as opportunities. Perspective is really all it took to make my journey easier and more fulfilling.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Thea Jones Music Movement story. Tell us more about the business.
I make people move. No stagnant energy around me! It’s important that we stay inspired and compassionate above all else. These two factors are a breeding ground for love. Love is at the core of everything I do. Thea Jones Music Movement was created to raise the bar. Offering a unique sound is not the easiest task to accomplish. To establish an impact we’ve mixed creativity with knowledge and encouragement. The method may be a familiar one but this experience is one of a kind.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Honestly, the world is one gigantic gamble right now. I’m not very concerned about music and entertainment but I’m curious in a way that provokes my band to remain independent. I think right now we’re staying focused on the artist integrity and freedom sector of the entertainment industry. I hope to see a rise in independent creative culture in the next 5-10 years.
