Today we’d like to introduce you to Electra Davis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am the founder of Mysteek Naturals. We are Black Woman Owned Veteran run Small Business. I am 35 Years old. I am a divorcee and mother of two children. I have a Bachelors in Business Administration with a concentration of Accounting. I believe I am one of the first black women to create this hair coloring system. I started developing the Mysteek Color Pop Hair Color in 2016. I launched the business officially May 2017.
I started Mysteek Naturals because like so many other women I was looking for an alternative to the rinses that weren’t giving me the popping color that I so badly wanted yet with the harm chemical and process of using a developer to bleach my hair to get that vibrant color I so badly desired. People started seeing me change my hair color all the time and then began asking how I was doing it without harming my hair. Once I showed them. They asked how they could buy some and the business was birthed from there.
I started my toothpaste line after learning the color code on the commercial toothpaste I used to use were alerting the customer of the chemicals and poisons in the toothpaste such as fluoride which was bad to my health.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles are finding and maintaining a consistent team, obtaining capital for marketing and advertisement, learning the administrative behind the scenes of a business, writing an effective business plan, trial and error in price points, lessons learned in specific financial business moves, keeping up with the algorithms of social media in regard to marketing and advertising to name a few.
Mysteek Naturals – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Mysteek Naturals is an innovative company that focus’ on chemical-free and or naturals products. We want to assist our customers remaining health conscience. We want to maintain our personal relationship with our customers to obtain their feedback both positive and negative to better assist them over time.
We have created a cream based poppin’ hair color line that assists in obtaining vibrant color customers want without drying the hair. There is no need for developer, bleach, pre-lightening, or chemical dyes in this product to obtain these bright colors. Just a rock star in a jar! This isn’t a rinse so there is nothing to wash out. The customer simply adds the color and moves on with their fantastic lives! The only “give and take” with this product is that with a being cream based we ask all customers to wear a bonnet at night to protect the pillows.
What type of service do you provide for your customers?
a) Hair coloring without the commitment and or chemicals
b) Toothpaste without chemicals and ingredients that help with the digestive tract and cavities.
What makes Mysteek Naturals unique?
My product is unique from my competitors because it’s chemical free and has minimal ingredients. The colors are fun to add and the name were selected based off the characteristics and feelings of the creator’s characteristics (myself). The toothpaste is an actual toothpaste that is meant to replace your traditional commercial toothpastes. It isn’t a messy powder like most we have seen on the internet to date. There are no chemicals, fluoride, or baking soda. Helps strengthen and whiten alongside freshening the breath.
We are best known for our “baby” which is the hair color. We ship internationally!!!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When I hired a CPA to reconcile all my accounts and realized that I went from making $4,084 for 2017 to making $31,400 in 2018.
