Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Johnson.
Destiny, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I fell in love with art as a whole while I was in elementary school and I was inspired to learn all the forms I could. I started learning to crochet and knit, then moved to painting and then at 14 I was gifted a camera and could never put it down. Photography has been the one art form that I feel I can still learn and grow from and it’s the one thing where every time I go to pick up the camera I get excited to use it. I’m now 25, and it’s been 11 years of me practicing photography, and even to this day I still love it.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I love capturing moments in time that mean something or creates emotion when people look at them. My favorites are portrait photography and environmental photography. I hope that people look at my photos and feel good on the inside when they see them, especially the landscape photos, I want them to feel like they were there or want to go there. Something that I would like for people to know about my work is that I put a lot of passion and time into it and I hope when visualizing my work they can feel it too.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities, and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
The biggest piece of advice I can offer to artists in photography is that you are the artist, not the equipment you’re using. Don’t get hung up on new stuff coming out or that this other artist has better equipment because it’s not the equipment it’s the artist.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I have a website and social media that I update frequently with new content as well as a new youtube channel where I plan to share my techniques.
