Art & Life with Mike Mixer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Mixer.

Mike, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am from Latta, a small town in South Carolina. I started producing music when I was in college at the age of 19. A guy who lived on our hallway at the University I attended, introduced me to FL Studio. I tried the program out that summer but couldn’t get the hang of it, and I stopped producing for a while. During my sophomore, I picked it back up when I heard a beat on the radio. I told myself these beats are too simple for me not to try producing again. Every day after class, I would lock myself in my room and watch tutorials on how to make beats. During my sophomore year, I linked with some local artists and started having my beats recorded on. Luckily I had people around me who were not “yes men” and would tell me if it was good or not, this helped me figure out how to format beats properly. During my Junior year of college I ended up meeting Lil Doug, and we locked in every day. His passion for music really kept me making beats! Fast forward to the age of 22, I was a college graduate working at a marina and on I was also a deckhand for a charter fishing company. I still would make beats on my spare time. In the Fall of 2017, my ex and I had a conversation about me moving to Atlanta. She told me there was nothing for me where I was, and I was talented enough to at least move to Atlanta and pursue a career in music. The next day after our conversation I put my two weeks notice in, and on the last day of work I found out I had a record on Plies and Kodak Blacks project FEMA. I guess you can say some things are just meant to be. Four days later I packed up my jeep, moved to Atlanta, and I haven’t looked back since then!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I produce music for hip hop artists using the program called Fruity Loops. I want to inspire people to chase a dream and realize you can do anything you set your mind to! I come from a small town where people fall into the norm and never go out and chase a dream.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Be yourself and do not try to be someone your not. Networking is key, but you have to learn to be genuine with the relationships you build. Also, know nothing happens overnight, and in the music industry patience is something you will have to go through. Your life will change, and you have to adapt to the changes that occur, and it is your job to overcome the challenges that will await you. Make sure you surround yourself with a good team that has our best interest!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
