Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Walsh.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mike. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started a musician that accidentally found his way into Dj’ing clubs, parties and weddings. I tried a lot of other paths but I could apply the marketing and business side to my DJ company. Whatever business I would get involved with, I knew that I could look at the scope of the market and competition and find a unique niche and/or do it better. I know have 6 employees and a managing partner, Hollon Yarborough, aka DJ Bigg H, that trains our staff on the Remix’d Wedding style and technique. Our DJs are unique because we perform live mashups and remixes at weddings and other special functions.
I also share my love for music for my love for coffee. My girlfriend, Diana Manolescu, and I recently co-founded Bean in the Borough, Atlanta’s first and only espresso trike for special events and functions. We are now opening a storefront inside the Cobb Galleria in 2017 so you come to us or we can come to you and deliver our amazing specialty coffee and espresso-based drinks.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’d say it’s been relatively smooth. Once I knew how to create our unique POV and gain and keep our clients, we have grown around 30% per year.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Amp’d Entertainment and Bean in the Borough story. Tell us more about the business.
Our DJs differ in that we perform live mashups and remixes but for weddings. My coffee company differs in that we serve up locally roasted coffee on our unique trike and carts but in a mobile capacity. Our goal is to own the mobile space for espresso based catering for office gatherings, movie sets, weddings, and other functions.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Previously, I was able to network and meet some great contacts who I have a strong business relationship with. Most recently, because of my networking over the years, I became aware of the opportunity for our coffee kiosk at the Cobb Galleria. We were able to find out about the opportunity quicker than others because I had my ear out there.
