Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Ulrich.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a 26-year-old Floridian living in Atlanta, my work at a digital advertising agency brought me here almost four years ago. I studied advertising and journalism at UF, I always wanted to work at an agency. I was (and am) fulfilled by my work in paid media, but always wanted to pursue something creative of my own. All day, I think about my clients and what’s best for their brand. There was a time. I thought this was preventing my creative juices from flowing, but I know now that it has provided me with a better understanding of the blogging world. I found myself spending hours looking at bloggers and their various platforms, so in awe of how they were able to create an online brand purely out of themselves. I became invested in their daily lives, and I had never even met them! It was so crazy to me. After a lot of contemplation, I launched my Instagram page and website in June 2018.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been pleasantly surprised by the community of women I have found through Instagram. There are so many bloggers supporting other bloggers and that has been amazing. My love for it has grown, I still look forward to creating content and trying new things. The hardest part has been trying to block out what others think or might be saying about me. For a long time, you have to consistently speak to an audience that you don’t have yet but want to build, and that can feel silly/become discouraging. Doing this while being confident posting images of yourself on an almost daily basis requires a lot of mental strength and positivity. I am still working through all of it of course, but my advice would be that whether you notice it or not, consistency does pay off. Don’t refrain from doing or posting something because you think someone is going to make fun of it! Make sure you truly enjoy it before you commit to it, and celebrate the little things.
We’d love to hear more about Que Sara Sara.
I launched @thesaraulrich simply to talk about my favorite things and experiences. I specialize in fashion, hoping to let women know of sales and items that can make them feel good without breaking the bank. However, I try to remain true to my life via my blog and IG in that I will post what I’m doing just like I would on a personal page. I hope followers feel like they can get to know me. I think that this can set you apart from a lot of the oversaturation in the industry. We will never be short on beautiful photos. Possessing your own sincerity, charm, and wit behind the post is so important.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Yes, I think so. I think I was always encouraged to do exactly what I wanted to do, no matter what that was. I was definitely given the confidence of the people around me to go out on a limb and pursue something, anything. I was raised by very creative people. I think to see the value in creativity growing upset me up for success in a new and ever-changing industry.
