Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalmon Stokes.
Kalmon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story is definitely a story of inspiration to those who have followed my journey. The only reason why I started modeling was because my family would not stop bugging me about it and I figured that I might as well do this while I’m young. Modeling was definitely a jump out of my comfort zone but as soon as my potential was recognized by some amazing photographers, I gained interest and really started working on my poses. As a professional track and field runner as well, I am always in shape and confident about my body.
Learning from great stylist, directors, photographers, and models, I then began to realize my potential as a model as well. I realized that modeling could also really boost my chances of being sponsored by an amazing brand, so that is why I continue to push my image and work as hard as possible on the track. Although I am relatively new to the modeling world, I have gained a decent amount of experience under my belt. It’s only a matter of time before the world recognizes my face and I make my mark on the industry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I have had to sacrifice a lot of time and money in order to get noticed. I have struggled a lot with understanding the modeling industry, not getting paid, and harassment. Along the way, I have learned how to keep away from it.
Kalmon Stokes – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a model from Atlanta, GA. I specialize in commercial, runway, and fashion. Known for my unique look and fit physique. I am most proud of how far I’ve grown in the industry because of how hard it can be for young African American models. What sets me apart from others is my work ethic, personality, unique look, and smile.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
What defines success, to me, is opportunity meeting preparation. I know that the only way I will succeed is if I am prepared for all opportunities. My criteria is my vision board and my affirmations that I have written on my bathroom mirror. The criteria is to stay ready and stay hungry.
