Today we’d like to introduce you to Colleen Posea.
Colleen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started taking photos with my first point-and-shoot camera around the age of 13. There was something about the way I saw the world through my own eyes that I felt that I needed to capture everything around me. I never thought, however, that I would be a photographer, yet alone a wedding and portrait photographer. Throughout high school, the only photos I ever took that included people were self-portraits. In the beginning years of college, I began to take some photos of my younger sister, but I fully believed that I would never be good enough to take photos of anyone else. After some personal struggles in the middle of college, I gained the confidence to start photographing other people. I just decided one day that I was fully capable of doing so. As cliche as it sounds, I have always loved love, which led me to my passion of couples and wedding photography.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at ALL! There is so much that goes into being a photographer that I never knew about, and I’m still learning to this day. Despite finding confidence to photograph weddings and other people, I’ve struggled quite a bit over the past few years with not feeling cut out or good enough when I wasn’t booking. I find that other creatives can often relate with these feelings because the reality is that most of us get caught in our own heads. It’s what makes us creatives, but it can get to you sometimes! Having your own photography business also requires a good amount of personal reflection. You have to really dig deep and figure out the type of clients you want to work with, how you can best serve those clients, and how to create meaningful, long-lasting relationships with them. And then there’s the business side of things. Like taxes. I literally knew nothing about business taxes until I recently met with a CPA. But I wouldn’t be where I am today without the good times and the rough times!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Colleen Elise Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in couples and wedding photography, but I also enjoy lifestyle senior and family sessions! As I previously stated, weddings are truly my passion. I can’t describe the feelings I get watching two people who are truly in love commit to each other for a lifetime, especially with how crazy the world is these days. There’s a pretty good chance that I will cry at some point while photographing a wedding. When working with couples and even seniors and families, I try my best to keep the session relaxed, fun, and enjoyable…whether that means really bad jokes or tripping over my own two feet. I also focus on capturing genuine moments and emotions. It’s super important to me to create something meaningful that my clients can cherish forever.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
So I actually live about an hour north of Atlanta. Traffic in the city stresses me out. I didn’t know until recently that you could be 2 miles away from your destination and it takes you 45 minutes to get there. Atlanta does have some gems though. There are some amazing concert venues, and I love the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
