Meet Trailblazer Julianna Money

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianna Money.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Fashion has always been a means of self-expression for me – a fun way to experiment and interact with the world visually. I had some pretty strong ideas about style from a very young age – my mom and I used to fight about what I would wear when I was only four years old! I became more passionate about fashion when I realized how often women don’t feel comfortable dressing the way they’d like to because of other people’s opinions or ideals. No Rules Jules started as a sentiment to counteract that via self-love and unapologetic self-expression. As I discovered how harmful fast fashion is to the environment, sustainability became an integral part of the brand as well.

Has it been a smooth road?
I would say my greatest struggle is and has been my mental health – I’ve been battling depression and anxiety for several years now. It’s a struggle I’m grateful for because it’s taken me deeper into myself and fostered a sense of self-love I could never have previously imagined. It’s shown me just how strong I am, and that the greatest strength is being brave enough to ask for help. There have definitely been times where it held me back, though – depression and anxiety can quickly fill your head with self-doubt about everything you’re trying to do, and make you feel like you aren’t worthy of your dreams and desires. To that effect, my advice would be – just do it!!!

We’d love to hear more about No Rules Jules.
I hope to be known as a voice for women that promotes self-love, a deeper connection with self, and awareness about the damage fast fashion is doing to the environment. I think what sets me apart is that I’m not really looking to gain anything, I’m just looking to spread a message that I care so much about – namely, reminding women to connect more deeply with themselves and their inner voice, and to express that through fashion by dressing just for themselves. As I develop the vendor side of my brand more, I hope to also be known for selling killer vintage clothing.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’m still looking for a mentor, but as far as finding people you connect with creatively, what’s worked for me is going places alone! (Obviously, take safety precautions.) I find going to events alone pushes me out of my shell and forces me to talk to people I probably wouldn’t have otherwise. I also make it a point to go up to someone and tell them when I think their outfit is stellar. I have seriously made so many creative connections and even really close friends just by doing that. Generally, I think when you dress expressively you will attract the kind of energy you put out!
