Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Bright.
Terry, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story is still growing as of right now and at this moment of my life i am experiencing healing. I am the oldest of six kids. Raised by my aunt and family members because they all play a part in raising me and as you get older, you start to realize it’s not easy to raise a child especially a black man. Everything is very fragile, we can be very twisty and turns growing up in NORTHWEST FLORIDA. (Laugh) you know they think everybody from Florida is crazy, lol. My grandfather (rest in peace) was a pastor, that how I started singing in the church, as I grew, my voice change, so I started writing songs because I couldn’t do cover songs any more which strengthen my songwriter skills a the age of 12 and 13 years old. That’s when I started to chase my dream in a city full of non-believers. My city is known for athletes Roy Jones Jr, Justin Gatlin, my blood cousin and super bowl hall a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers #55 Derrick Brooke’s (cheers)!!
Has it been a smooth road?
Oh, for me, no, everybody told me to model, to be an actor, which I am me and YG, did our first film together called “WE THE PARTY” prod by Mario vans pebbles. Terry your funny, do reality or just write songs, I don’t see the artist in you. NOW, THEY CAN’T STOP CALLING ME. “The owl,” lol! Matthew Knowles even told me to just be a songwriter. I didn’t let people sit my dream aside because they didn’t see it. They see it now and I would tell any young or old lady or gent to stay with your dreams because it won’t make sense to them, you saw the vision, bring it to life.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Terry Bright story. Tell us more about the business.
What set me apart from others is I’m Terry Bright, that’s the problem why artist fight for the number one spot because trying to be better than the person next to them. I just wanna be myself and that’s what I’m loving about the artist like Lady Gaga or Cardi B, Frank Ocean, Solange. They set the bar to be the best version of themselves. I’m a singer-songwriter trying to share my experiences and growth with my audience.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
“Dawn Richard” is just one of the many artist who has inspired me because of her story and will to fight to be the best version of herself. She always shares her platform with me and other dope indie artists. I love indie artist right now I’m super inspired by this artist name samoht very talented vocalist very humble her creatively is crazy and he is a MALE ARTIST. It’s something about masculine energy that I never get to share with artist we communicate through DM on Instagram he don’t follow me yet but I wanna work with him he is future of music too me he is setting a standard for himself I love that and that’s inspiring. So life Inspires me just living and learning and I was experiencing things different levels in life different people in life.
