Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Kesawn C.
DiamondKesawn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born and Raised in Boston, MA, I knew after college I had to depart from Boston. I always felt that I had so much more to live for and Boston was too small of a city for what I had to offer.
After college, I moved to Baltimore which is where I was introduced to the Entertainment Industry. I interned at 92Q under Sonjay who at the time was the Producer of the Morning show. Sonjay is a woman of focus and watching how she worked and how she dealt with people really prepared me for the road ahead.
I launched DKP Radio in 2010 as a way for Indie Artist to get exposure and not have to come out of pocket. DKP Radio started out great and lead to the launch of www.DiamondKesawn.com.
Eventually, I wanted more and I met a young lady name Danielle Brown-Cooper who changed my life. She was an industry vet who had taken time away to raise her children. However, sis still had the plugs. Seeing my passion and recognizing my skill, Danielle linked me in with her dad, Bruce Brown, who owned “Keepin It Real.” A show which aired in Baltimore late night Saturdays.
After meeting Bruce and talking to him, he gave me the opportunity I had been waiting for. Bruce allowed me to Produce my own segment and have it air on his show. Babeeeeeeeeeee! You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t ON. Ha!
I started out with a five min segment that I named “Hot Spot” where I covered the Hottest events and Promoters that were on the scene at the time. Oh yes! He had access. LoL
With the radio in motion and now television in motion, I kicked off my YouTube channel. After posting a few interviews and event recaps, I landed on the radar of The Hype Magazine’s Editor in Chief, Jerry Doby. Jerry presented me to the Publisher Jameelah “Just Jay” and I started to cover events under the imprint of The Hype Magazine. You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t walking in my destiny at this point.
Fast forward a few years. Everything is in motion, then I move to Atlanta November 2011. I was hanging heavy with Baltimore’s Own Female Rapper April Love and we was ready to GO! LoL
We hit the highway and made it happen. Bruce let me keep doing segments from Atlanta. Jerry and Jay let me start to cover the SE region for The Hype Magazine and I was making my way through the Atl circuit.
A few months into my ATL living, I had a buzz. Some people knew me. Some knew of me. But I was that boy and I was on GO. I raised the stakes when I linked with Emani “The MadeWoman” Virgil (wife of Original Hot Boy Turk) for her Single release of “Rain Fall Down.” Emani was doing her thing. I loved her style, her flow, and her personality. I shot my shot and sent sis management team an email, we had a call, and boom, I was working the project. Emani moved numbers with “Rain Fall Down” and because of the success of her project and my loyalty to the brand, I ended working with My Fav Rapper of all time, Hot Boy Turk. Babeeeeee, when Turk ever called my phone and invited me on board, it was a wrap. No one could take my joy away. LoL!
By this time, it is 1012, DKP Radio is rocking. “Hot Spot” on Keepin It Real TV is rocking. I am handling PR for Emani. Handling Media Reach Outs for Turk. What more could I ask for? With all this going, this leads to the Call!
The Call from Jerry Doby himself, then from Von Watts, then Jameelah “Just Jay.” Babeeeeeeeeeeee, when they ever offered me to be the Editor In Chief of Raynbow Affair Magazine…. (Let it sink in) Yes! Me. The 26-year-old from Boston who went to school for Criminal Justice and always thought a career in the Entertainment Industry would be a dream. Me! I got the call. Now, true tea, I was scared as ever. But after a few conversations with Jerry, I dived in Head First and have been the Juggle Master ever since. LoL!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been smooth but it truly is what you make it. I built my own path after realizing I didn’t fit what was wanted at that time. I refused to let the No’s detour me from my goal. I built my empire through hard work, dedication, and most of all determination.
In the beginning, my days were, Radio Station 5am-8am, Work 9am-5pm, Event or Interviews 6pm-11pm. I did this Mon-Fri. Sat was my editing day and Sunday was for Church and Research. I played NO GAMES!
All these years later, I still work 20 out of 24 hours just at a higher rate. LoL! However, in all seriousness, for me, the grind never sleeps. I’m never afraid of my next blessing, and I know that the race isn’t given to the swift.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Diamond Kesawn Presents – what should we know?
I am most known in the indie market as being a Personality via DKP Radio. I am most known in the mainstream market as the media personality for The Hype Magazine. I am known amongst the Hood as Hot Boy Turks PR. LoL! And within the LGBT world, I am known as the Editor in Chief of Raynbow Affair Magazine.
Regardless, of how one knows me, they know I am #TheOne….. #MindYou
As you can guess, wearing many hats, depending on how a person meets me determines what they know me as.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel personality is the most important attribute for success. Especially when it comes to mine. There is only one DiamondKesawn and babeeeeeeeeee. There could never be another. My charm would be second. And, my dedication last but not least.
