Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Weiner.
Brooke, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Originally from California, I grew up in a small beach town called Ventura. I grew up playing many sports including soccer, surfing, and volleyball. I was blessed with the opportunity to play Division 1 Beach Volleyball and I had decided to look into schools that were outside of California to step out of my comfort zone, spread my wings, and live in a completely different place for four years. I spent time visiting many different schools on the East Coast, but I immediately fell in love with Atlanta upon visiting. I am currently a senior at Georgia State Majoring in Marketing with a Minor in Real Estate while also playing on the Beach Volleyball Team. I have a passion for fitness and helping others feel their strongest physically while empowering them to truly love themselves through self-care, fitness, healthy eating, and other methods. I will be pursuing personal training after college and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth, and I am beyond thankful for that. I have come out stronger after every single obstacle and I know that God uses every struggle to turn it into something beautiful. The advice I’d give to women and particularly young women who are just starting out their journey would be to find a close-knit tribe of girls that you can trust and talk to. Whenever I try to isolate myself while going through struggles, I often get into an even darker place. Strong relationships with friends are pivotal when life gets challenging. It’s really important to admit to others when you are struggling so that they can help. I know this is easier said than done, but I promise the sooner you ask for help, the sooner you will receive the extra love and support that you need when life seems dark. The people that love you truly want to help but it’s on you to let them know that you need them as well.
My last piece of advice would be to understand that your struggle is your edge. If you can look at the trials you’ve gone through as a benefit you can truly help others who might be going through the same thing. I’ve found that using my struggle as my strength has been a great way to look at obstacles. Keep fighting through the struggles, because God always promises an equal or possibly even greater light at the end of every fight.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Currently, I am a student-athlete at Georgia State University. I am Majoring in Marketing while Minoring in Real Estate at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at GSU. I am entering my fourth and final season representing Georgia State on the Beach Volleyball team. I am weighing my options and highly considering playing beach volleyball professionally after I graduate.
I am pursuing personal training and I am just in the beginning stages which is very exciting. I am most proud of the fact that I have the opportunity to help girls and women feel confident in their bodies so that they can go out and fulfill everything that the Lord wants for them. I set apart from others because of my athletic background and years of training in beach volleyball. I am constantly learning and will continue to learn everything I can in the fitness world to make sure I am providing the most current and effective training techniques. I also stand out from others girls in the industry because I myself have gone through many different stages regarding weight gain and weight loss, and I understand how hard the internal battle can be with fighting body image issues or finding the motivation. I have seen and been at both sides of the spectrum, so I usually have a deeper understanding and connection with my clients because I know exactly where they’re coming from.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Advice I’d give for networking would be to meet people wherever you go. Step out of your comfort zone and talk to people everywhere… whether it’s at the grocery store, in line for Starbucks, at school, in an Uber, or at events. In today’s world, making connections and meeting people is the easiest it’s ever been. It’s very important to utilize networking every single day.
