Meet Connor Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connor Brown.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My story is unique because it revolves around the element of taking a chance and the favor of God. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where my family made sure that they raised me up in church. Growing up in church, I experienced the power of what live music, rhythm and melodies could do to people. It was then where I made up my mind to want to learn the art of music. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2002, and started to learn how to play the drums in church. I practiced for years honing my skills and thinking this was my musical purpose, but God had other plans for me. In 2007, the first lady at my church, who was also the piano player, was expecting a child, would retire upon her baby being born. She looked me in my eyes and told me that she wanted me to learn how to play the piano and that she believed in me. At that moment, I made a choice and took a chance to learn how to play and ever since then, God has graced me with favor and opened so many doors for me. I’ve had the chance to share the same stage with many Grammy-nominated artists such as Frankie Beverly & Maze, Monica, The Eisley Brothers and many more. I am excited for the road ahead and to everyone who is reading this I encourage you all, just like myself, to take a chance on life-changing moments and watch God take over.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is that I am a musician. I play the piano/keyboard. I produce music with other artists, create tracks, perform music live on stage, and I make live arrangements. The secret when producing music is to record everything in your head even if it does not make sense because as long as you have it somewhere recorded you can always go back to it and build on it. My passion lies when I am on stage performing music; it is where I find my musical fulfillment. I am the Musical Director for a corporate band based in Atlanta, GA called “The City.” We do live covers, and that’s where I come up with live arrangements for songs to perform for our fans. I love what I do, and it has become my passion and purpose. The message I want people to take away is to always give back your gifts and talents to help others. God gave you a gift for a reason, use it not only for yourself but for others as well.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I believe the role of artists has changed because artists have to be more aware of social issues on any scale as they can sometimes have a bigger impact on artists’ music. For example, with everything going on with R. Kelly, most musical artists look to him as an inspiration and sing his songs, but now artists have to be mindful of his music given his situation, as it could have a negative impact on a new artists career.
