Conversations with the Inspiring Jordan Gunn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Gunn.

Jordan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Back in high school, my dad had a camera that he never used, so I was like “I’ll just pick this up and see what I can do!” I quickly learned that I LOVED being behind the camera. My grandfather grew up as a photographer, I remember that he always had a camera on him. Now, I’m the one who always carries a camera- so you could say that I am continuing his legacy!

I started out first taking portraits of people for fun- and then I had people come back to me and say, “Hey, we would definitely pay you for these!” That is where Jordan Miah Photography began. I have officially been in serious business for about two years now, and the growth that I have experienced has been tremendous. I first started out with local kid and family portraits and am now photographing birth and love stories all throughout North Georgia and East Tennessee.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Over the past couple of years, my biggest struggle has been narrowing down my own unique style. As an artist making a living off of my own business, I also want my photographs to stand out. I have finally created my own presets to make my photographs all gel together and narrow down the types of photography sessions that I want to photograph. I lean towards more of the candid opportunities- like weddings and birth. I try not to over-pose my clients and accept jobs where I can have that genuine candid look. All of that adds to my style, but it took me a while to realize that that was what I was searching for within my art and business.

For young women just starting their journey- whatever journey it may be, don’t hesitate to try out different things to figure out what you are truly wanting out of your journey. As an artist, that looked like a lot of phone calls to friends and loved ones, sitting down with other creatives and asking the hard questions, and stepping out on faith marketing my own style.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
As I have stated, I am a photographer who specializes in love and birth and I’m the owner of Jordan Miah Photography. I am known for my birth photos, my newborn photos, and my wedding photos. I am known for editing in a natural way. I do not wish to over-edit any photograph to make it not look like the original one, because I want my clients to look at the photographs that I have given them and remember the moments in the purest, most genuine form.

I am most proud of the comments that I receive after sending a gallery to my clients. My clients love the candid nature to my photographs and the fact that I was so helpful to them on their wedding day or during the birth of their child. Not only do I want to give my clients beautiful photographs, but I truly want to be helpful to my clients and help with any problems that come up during a wedding or birthday. It puts such a smile on my face when my clients describe me as servant-hearted from their experience with me!

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
First of all, my parents were such a huge influence in my success today. Growing up, they let me make messes and create at such a young age. They also taught me how to clean up too, don’t worry;) They truly were the best parents a creative girl could have. They encouraged me in my art all throughout my school and extracurricular careers- and even into college – when I called them and said: “I’m going to change my major from Pre-OT to Art Marketing!” They excitedly supported me!

Secondly, the resources and knowledge that my high school and college have given me have played a huge role in my success. Just this morning, I was thinking about the knowledge I have acquired in my college career and how to analyze a piece of art. It is beautiful knowledge! I have been able to take that knowledge into my business and analyze my own work and see the strengths and weaknesses it has.
