Today we’d like to introduce you to DoIt Jack.
DoIt, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
WhatsYoHustle was first created in 2016 to give small business owners a platform to help spread awareness about their business and products. We started conducting interviews with business owners and felt that creating video content would best serve this purpose. The problem with filming the interviews was that I didn’t have a camera nor did I have any knowledge on how to conduct an interview.
With some hard studying and research as well as equipment buying, I learned to conduct interviews, how to film them, how to light, and how to edit them. I then began to like the production more than the interviews itself. It was at this point that I discovered that my true passion was in filmmaking. The company then morphed into a production company. The name WhatsYoHustle remained because it communicates an idea of hard work, grit, ambition, and self-reliance. These are traits that I try to embody on a day to day basis. Prior to discovering my passion for filmmaking, I always had a knack for storytelling. My newfound skill coupled with storytelling led me to become an independent filmmaker.
I now write, direct, and produce all of my short film content. I shot my first short film in September of 2017 and haven’t stopped since. I have also created an independent film showcase called the “Do It Yourself Film Event.” This event is specifically for independent filmmakers with short film content who would like to screen their work at a theatre in front of a live audience. Our next event will take place on July 3, 2019. More information on the event can be found online at www.diyfilmevent.com.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like most independent filmmakers, the main thing we struggle with is access to adequate resources. It is often a struggle when you’re financing your own projects. Filmmaking is one of the most expensive crafts that exist and you have to put up money in order to create high-quality work. The good thing about putting up your own money is that you have 100% control over the content that you create. Another challenge is finding a reliable team who are as passionate as you are about completing objectives. Luckily, I have a strong team that has been there since day 1.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with WhatsYoHustle Productions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
WhatsYoHustle is a film production company that specializes in narrative films. We shoot short films with the goal of producing feature films in the near future. We are different from other production companies because we own and control an independent film showcase called the ”Do It Yourself Film Event.” This event is a film showcase for independent filmmakers to display their films in a theatre setting. The film showcase is currently in its second year.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Probably what I like least about our city is the parking hassle of downtown and the traffic on highways. I like the vibrant culture and the southern hospitality most. I also like the opportunities that exist here in the city for filmmakers, actors, writers, and everyone associated with the film industry.
