Meet LaVon Morrow of Dimensions Trichology Center in Cobb County

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaVon Morrow.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love and passion for hair started as a child; an eager 6 year old girl excitedly awaiting her next doll to cut and style. As family members recognized my authentic love for hair, they began to let me experiment on them at a very young age. After many years of creating smile after smile, I decided this was the career for me. Much to my dismay, my parents decided otherwise. After graduating from high school, I went to college and earned a degree in Marketing and English. From there, I worked in corporate America for the next 8 years. While I was not in the hair care industry, I continued to do hair in my spare time.

Moving forward, I made my break into the cosmetology world after having my son and pulling away from my position as a financial analyst. With the support of my husband, and believe it or not my parents, I was on my way to fulfilling my lifelong passion as a cosmetologist. After moving in the hair care industry full-time, I realized that there was much more to doing hair than just styling. Here was a world that I was not quite prepared for. There were many women and men suffering with scalp conditions and unexplained hair loss. They had questions, but I didn’t have the answers. This presented a new challenge for me. What’s next?

Initially, I completed the program to become an instructor of cosmetology. While studying and digging deeper into the cosmetology industry, I uncovered what looked like an explanation to all of the unanswered questions I encountered. The study of TRICHOLOGY! Trichology is the study of the structure, function and diseases of the human hair. I remember thinking, “Wow, this is truly my destiny!” From that day, I started studying trichology and the rest is history. I took numerous trichology seminars and workshops ultimately leading to me studying the full certification program through the International Association of Trichologists in Sydney, Australia.

For the last 16 years I have been working full-time in the hair care industry. The last 8 years have been dedicated totally to trichology. Each day I am faced with the daunting task of helping clients to recognize and uncover the underlying factors causing their hair and scalp maladies. Through assessments and analysis, counseling and partnering with physicians, the treatment phase begins. I am then able to develop, implement, and manage a treatment program suited specifically to each individual to achieve their hair and scalp goals and most of all GET RESULTS! While I was not being able to study hair right out of high school, I refer to Maya Angelou’s famous statement, “I wouldn’t take nothing for my journey.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I can’t say that the road has been totally smooth. It breaks my heart when clients come in that I cannot help. Hair loss is not always reversible. The most prevalent struggle with clients who are assigned to a treatment program, is their lack of commitment. Hair loss is unlike most programs where you can see measurable results quickly. For example, you can sign up for a weight loss program and have a goal to lose 2 pounds per week and it actually happens. It is not that simple with hair loss. Due to the growth cycle of the hair, visible results potentially take months to see. When the results are not quickly apparent, people tend to give up.

Another challenge is dispelling the myths and competing with our biggest competition, THE INTERNET! While hair blogs and YouTube videos have become extremely popular, the information regarding hair is rarely accurate and almost never backed by science. In today’s society, it is believed that 28% of our time is spent on social media. There is an enormous amount of information regarding hair and hair loss on social media today. My explanations and recommendations become foreign when compared to the output of information on blogs and such.

The other challenge that we cannot surmount is the cost. Because hair is considered a non-essential tissue which is not medically necessary to survive, the services are not covered by insurance. Therefore, the out of pocket investment can be costly.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dimensions Trichology Center – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Dimensions Trichology Center is a full-service hair restoration center. We specialize in providing education, combating scalp disorders, halting hair loss, restoring hair loss, and supplying a long-term hair care regimen. This is achieved with a personalized and comprehensive hair care study to uncover the source/root cause of each hair loss and/or scalp disorder.  Thorough examinations, microscopic analysis, nutrition analysis, as well as customized treatments, are provided in a private, professional and relaxed environment.  Our aim is to restore confidence to every client.

We have a strong reputation for displaying exemplary service and providing honest feedback even if it means losing a sale. We do not merely seek to expand our business base.  Rather, we strive to educate and enlighten our clients to all aspects of hair loss and scalp disorders.

Through an evidence-based approach, we have experienced the reward of exceeding the expectations of our clients and producing great results. I am most proud of the results that we have achieved and the determination to never waver on the underlying foundations of our company: Integrity, Accountability, Professionalism, Superior Customer Service, and Education.

Our extensive training and expertise definitely sets us apart from others. Annual continuing education allows us to remain highly competent and informed on the latest developments, research, and therapies surrounding hair loss and scalp disorders.  Our clients receive on-going support and counseling. Their accessibility to us does not end with the consultation or treatment process. Our service and guidance are unmatched!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Hair loss can be complicated. Often times, clients have to make multiple appointments with multiple practitioners and physicians in order to establish a plan. My ultimate goal is to establish a “one-stop shop” for all hair and scalp concerns. My dream staff would include cosmetologists, trichologists, dermatologists, hair transplant surgeons, and nurses. This will encompass a group who could provide every possible hair restoration option in one place and continue to fight the current epidemic of hair loss.

I am looking forward to the day when there are more resources available to treat hair loss; the day when it is acknowledged for the devastating and life-altering challenges that it presents. Hair is important and deserves attention.
