Meet Ryon Schultz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryon Schultz.

Ryon, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
In the beginning, I wasn’t sure what it was I wanted to do. I had cousins that were good in sports at an early age but I never really cared for playing any sport! By 13 I found myself playing the saxophone in middle school and I began to express myself through playing. By the time I turned 19 I got an opportunity to play with one of my music idols Eric Darius at the Seabreeze jazz festival afterparty which opened up doors for me to meet and play with other amazing artists that I’ve looked up to! Like Brian Culbertson, Marcus Anderson, James Lloyd, and Julian Vaughn to name a few. As an upcoming artist, I wanted to be the crossover appeal to my generation to show you don’t have to be a basketball or football player or rapper, its many other places we are needed, and jazz is one of them!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
When I write my music, I don’t try to stick to a guideline or stay restricted to one thing! I listen to lots of music from Guns n Roses, Louis Fonsi, Trombone Shorty, Prince, etc… So from me listening to really everything it comes out in my songwriting. And it’s really exciting because I never know what I will come up with! But I found my best songs are the ones that come to me at random times out of the day or me going through life experience and it gives me a chance to tell my story. When people hear my music I want them to feel what I felt when writing the song, from going down the highway speeding in your dream car to walking on the beach or maybe just having a relaxing day at home, every song has a story! Its plenty of negativity around us every day so I just want to be one positive guy to show everything will be alright.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
As an artist, I would say one of our biggest challenges is how people listen to our music. It’s very easy for anyone to go on youtube and pull up our music and listen to us all day and night, but it hurts our cd sales which make it harder for us to live off of our God-given talents. Im not speaking down on youtube I actually love youtube a lot, but this is just one way as an artist we get hurt financially with our music.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
If you want to follow me all of my music is on iTunes and all other places you can buy music. Also if everyone wants to keep up with me, all of my social media accounts are under Ryon Schultz. I am on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Youtube.
