Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Williams.
Kennedy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I grew up around the hair industry (having 12 aunts and uncles) all hair dressers and barbers with a family owned beauty/barber show in Chicago. At 5 years old, I was sitting on my mom’s shoulders and giving my first roller set… As a youth I would follow my aunt to all her hair appointments and drive the stylists’ crazy with all my question…
All through high school, instead of getting a fast food job in the 80’s, I made money doing perms, cuts and such to my family and friends
At 15 I relocated to Hollywood California and upon graduation I starting working in the Technology field, which I stayed in as project manager until 2011 (wish I had just starting doing hair when I was young) but that’s life
After the Dot.com/Technology bubble bust of the 2000’s… I worked as an independent contractor in website/design business but I wanted to do something else… When I realized the one thing I loved from childhood was “hair”. I had my next career plan in place.
Fast forward, moved to Georgia in 2011, to be close to my family (who had relocated years before) and get my cosmetology license.
Graduated in 2012 and decided I would only work for someone else for 2 years and then go on my own and created Kennedy Salon Studio since 2015
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I knew starting in the business late, there was no way I would work for someone else for 10 years and then hopefully start my own salon… So I put up with bad bosses and some ageism because I was nowhere near 18 years old…
So I studied and learned fast, moving on to working for myself
So to answer the question, was it a smooth or difficult road? I had a plan and did what i need to get to where I wanted to be… so it was all worth it
