Meet Yusef Sharif of The Jazz Disciples in South Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yusef Sharif.

Yusef Sharif, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I initially started the group out of New York. Then proceeded to Boston, Mass and eventually re-organized the group in Atlanta, Ga. The members have changed over the course of the years but the concept and the sound has been constant,

We have performed nationally and internationally, and for many notable personalities, including movie stars, governors, county official and play writers.

We perform at several venues in the metropolitan area (Pappa Deaux’s , Copelands, Spice Restaurant, Whole Foods stores, The College Park Convention Center, Loving It Live Raw Food Restaurant, The Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, The Pecan Restaurant ) many of the local hotels to name a few.

We have scored the music for several screen plays, TV productions, movies, and commercials. Coupled herewith we have had several featured articles in The ALT Journal Constitution and local magazines, New York, Boston, and Canadian papers and magazines, We have had several radio and TV interviews.

The group is comprised of Yusef Sharif @ alto sax, Etsuko Tomeda @ piano, DeSean Harper/0r Matt Stalled @ bass, and Omar Martinez/ or Jim Morrison @ drums.

We are an exciting group to see and hear. We reach our audience.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The task of performing good music has becoming challenging here lately as a result of an over intended effort to employ certain styles of music imitations to obtain a particular design from listeners. So, the listing audience has to be refine in culture and experience to receive the messages of quality music; as in the case of quality anything.

But the mature and appreciative listener is there (young and older). What is of-times difficult is access of venues. It’s akin to the difference of eating out and fine dining.

Please tell us about The Jazz Disciples.
We, as a group are intent on educating, cultivating and agitating our audiences, Our hope is to improve the level of consciousness of the listener to witness the wonders of creation, the power of their minds and how true art plays a role in the course of our living experience. Be it a by-product of the many emotional one encounters in life.

Our pride is the fact that oft-times our audiences inform us how their minds, hearts and levels of euphoria have increased; hence bringing about their appreciation for this music we play.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would like to say there is no starting over, but there is always room for improvement.
Improvement from both the performer and the listener when it comes to music.

The evidence is in the hands of those who affords us (society) to drink of and eat of. A question to be considered by a free-spirited and opened mind.

Enjoyed your music while having dinner at The Village Cafe. Your selection of songs were some of my favorites, they were great to sing along to. It made our birthday celebration just a bit special. Thanks
