Meet Matthew Head

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Head.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Matthew. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a film composer and music producer from Marietta, Georgia. I began playing music at the age of five and writing and creating my own music at the age of 12. My mother had a heavy influence on me with music. During my childhood, our home will be filled with music such as jazz, gospel, classical, and array of instrumentals that I would play and mimic. Through the years, I began to create and experiment with my own instrumentals and tracks.

I attended Savannah State University and would continue the hobby of creating music in my dorm room which leads me to a local hip hop artist in the Savannah area. Through that artists, I began making music for other artists and began to record and produce music in Savannah and against my parent’s wishes, I dropped out of school to pursue my dream of being a music producer.

I moved home and began working with local artists in the Atlanta area in a small studio in Smyrna, Georgia. Through that studio, I was introduced to a local film production company that needed music for their film. I had no idea how to score a film but took a shot at it and the film and music received rave reviews. With that success, I started to educate myself on film composition and I haven’t looked back since.

Through years of composing music for independent films and commercials, I received the opportunity to produce the music for Oprah Winfrey’s television series, Greenleaf. I produced the music for the series for two seasons and that lead me to the opportunity to work alongside multi award-winning producer Timbaland on Lionsgate/YouTube Premium series Step Up High Water. I am currently composing the music for BET Series Boomerang and Carl Weber’s The Family Business.

Along the way, I received a few awards and accolades that I am very proud of. I’ve made some life-changing friendships and I am extremely excited about the future.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Typically, I want to say my road has been challenging, but my road has been smooth due to the huge support of my wife, family, and friends. Throughout my journey, I’ve had to have a couple of reality checks and “come to Jesus” moments, but I never doubted by talents or my ability. I have an undeniably strong faith in GOD and know what’s for me is for me. The entertainment industry is an unpredictable space and having that support system and my relationship with GOD keeps my road smooth and balanced.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Matthew Head Productions – what should we know?

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
