Today we’d like to introduce you to Montana Brown.
Montana, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Went from being an athlete, playing every sport just about including martial arts for the longest of 9 years, a deputy black belt : ) might I add, Grew up as the youngest of 3, I am blessed to say Im fortunate to experience many things. I moved to Florida for a few years with my dad and came back to a new lifestyle, fell in love with the arts randomly during high school because I wanted to hang out after school with the cool kids. Took a passion with live entertainment and musical theatre production; it gave me my eye for color and lighting. I absolutely love lights and colors. College came around, and I was playing around with a friend Nikon D3800 one day and took a cool picture. Next thing I knew, I had my own camera and was taking pictures at all the clubs during my freshman and sophomore year lol. My demand grew faster than my passion and killed me. I took a break and got back focused on school and working at my favorite coffee shop, Ebrik Coffee Room. Its been my job all throughout my college life and it is a bigger part of my identity than some may know. I grew to love people and challenging myself to understanding as much and as many people as possible. Im obsessed with connecting with people and food and traveling! This passion led me back behind the camera and wanting to capture people and the most obsessed over things that bring people together, food. Food and people are my priority these days. Trying new foods, new places, sharing my food and other food and the good times it brings to people. I try and capture people and their energies very candidly so that it is always authentic; I like to make moods out of mistakes and feelings with light. I’m pretty “weird”, and I eat alot and never gain weight … lol and I graduated this past, and it was a HUGE struggle for me, I overcame alot. Also started a lifestyle campaign called H.O.M.I.E.S.- helping others manage in every situation, that I use to promote creativity, oneness & originality
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Candid is authentic, I don’t care to capture posed subjects unless it’s inanimate like food or landscape, and even then I try and catch it in some type of motion or expression including a person! Colors and Lighting are important in making the environment comfortable so that expression comes out naturally. I focus on creating vibes; you can only trust them because energy doesn’t lie. I recently started doing studio photography which is a challenge because I have to create a safe haven for the energies to flow instead of just emerging in an existing space and snapping pics with all that is given, I’m growing fond of it though, but if you ask me, I’m going to want to go to a restaurant and take pics of the food and stuff before anything else lol
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Communication is contagious. People and like parrots, they can speak their own language, as well as anyone else, ‘s so they decide which to speak, and when depending on who is around. Speak your own language and acknowledge everyone else’s. That’s all it takes to start to understand those around you and I’m convinced pure happiness comes from being happy with everyone and everything around you. Good or Bad
