Meet Kenzie McCall of Q-ations in Peachtree Corners

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenzie McCall.

Kenzie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been a creative spirit. I grew up learning how to do various construction projects from my parents and incorporating my creativity into everything I would do. As I grew older and got my own house and started decorating, I would have visions of furniture or art, but I could never find exactly what I wanted. So I started off making my own furniture and decorations around the house. This turned into friends asking me for custom pieces and it took off from there. I also was a co-producer for an androgynous fashion show and wanted something unique to show on the runway so I started hand carving wooden bow ties and incorporated that all into a business.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course with starting any business, there have been struggles. I think with any retail type company the main struggle is getting your products seen. Luckily I have a really good support system that continues to help me get my work out there so they can be seen and increase business. With the other activities I am involved in professionally as a DJ and in the corporate world, I’m also able to use that platform to promote myself as well.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Q-ations is more of an umbrella for all my creations. Mostly this consists of my canvas artwork; hand-carved wood bowties, various woodworking decor, and custom ordered wood furniture. Everything I make is created with a budget in mind so I like to give other people an opportunity for something custom for their living and work spaces that will not break the bank. I like giving customers an opportunity to use their creative sides to order something that fits them.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Atlanta is the next New York or L.A. There are so many opportunities here to branch out and start your own business. I think we live in an age where everyone has multiple hustles and wanting to become your own boss is more common than it used to be. Atlanta has a little bit of everything so its always possible to find resources to help start a business and continue to grow. If you are willing to put in the work, anything is possible.
