Meet Jessica Lackey of EROS in Greater Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Lackey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew on imagination. When there was lack of love or friendship or compassion, there was imagination. I’ve been creating my own world since a child. My reality was so limited and saddening that I unconsciously created this world of my own.

Fast forwarding, I’ve never lost the fire in my heart for dreaming, If anything it’s stronger than it’s ever been! I am lucky to have surrounded myself with loving friends and creators that inspire and support me every step of the way, even when I fuck up. Continuing to build this world in my head and onto the world where others can see what’s in my wonderland world of a mind, I have been able to travel the world, meeting so many people, opportunities, and spreading EROS all across borders I would’ve never guessed I’d actually be. I am still on my journey, this is only the beginning, look out for the little black girl screaming EROS and coloring the world one creation at a time. I want you to believe in you. So I can believe in me. So we can live our dreams. FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS! LIVE YOUR DREAMS! NEVER QUIT YOUR IMAGINATION!

Has it been a smooth road?
At times I look to myself in fear that I may be letting myself down to live what seems to be an intangible goal. In the world of an artist alone, support is surely not given in abundance. But I like that it must be earned. I love challenges and my life at this point definitely feels like the hardest level I must fight for because it is a fight for myself. I became a Full-Time Artist at the start of this year. A 20-year-old imaginator, imagine that. But to describe the transition from a conventional lifestyle to one that is not is like diving into the deep blue ocean, you are either to sink, float, or swim. Do not expect everyone to cheer you on or throw you a life vest right away. You’ve got to work for it and believe, believe, believe.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the EROS story. Tell us more about the business.
In Greek mythology, EROS is the god of love. More relatively, the story of Eros and Psyche was one of immense difficulty and rebellion in the name of what they believed, love. They were forbidden to be together but they fought and searched to end of the world for each and in the end…succeeded. Although the name Eros what given to me, learning their story has greatly inspired me, I feel a deep connection to what it tells. EROS is a win for myself and all imaginators to continue the fight for freedom in creating in reality without limitations. A creator is who I am, I can not change this. My goal is to become an inspiration for other creators who don’t want to go to school or work a 9 to 5, that they don’t have to dim their imagination (themselves) to live in this world. EROS is also to create this dream world for all to see, every work that I do is solely my imagination hence the dream-look. I am most proud of already being able to inspire others and myself to keep going, keep pushing, keep thinking, keep creating. It is always believed that the dreamer is “out of touch” or should conform to reality to succeed, but dreaming is reality. Creating your imagination is a rebirth. It is who I am, my purpose.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My own museum, so serious. I see major art installations, including way more photoshoots that even turn into movies/films. My paintings are the most unseen work that I do but it’s what it is the basis of my creativity, so definitely mind-boggling paintings to be showcased (the goal is Le Louvre Museum). Magazines, plays, fashion shows…I like to show better than to tell so keep watching!
