Today we’d like to introduce you to Keeyen Martin.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m a native of Charlotte, NC and was born into a very musical family. My family tree really is my foundation.
-My Grandmother, a pianist, and a singer
-My father’s a Pastor, accomplished pianist, and songwriter
-Uncle, Choral Director, organist, and composer
-Mother, a singer
Having these examples, it was inevitable to do music. At 2 yrs old my Grandmother says I started singing and wouldn’t stop. Needless to say, I truly have yet to stop (laughs), And I don’t intend to. Music and singing have always been things I’ve done naturally and well. I love it. By 5 yrs old I knew I was destined to sing. Upon entering high school, I knew I was purposed to become a renowned Artist.
Finding my niche and sound in high school were pivotal moments for me. The transition to college was so epic because I was so locked into who I was as an Artist. Attending Morehouse College as a Music Major/ Spanish minor, I performed everywhere all the time. I was fortuned many life-changing opportunities that truly set the tone for my career. Atl has become a second home and a launching pad for me as an Artist.
Please tell us about your art.
I sing, play the piano, and write songs. My aim is to uplift, encourage, and inspire through music. I hope people are moved and impacted to be the best versions of themselves.
My music is a blend of pop, Rnb, and soul.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Be unashamed and open to working. Whatever that looks life for you as an individual, commit to it. Don’t let a creative path mislead you to not making money. Everything requires finances. Attempt to exhaust all avenues of finding paid work in your field and if all else fails have another job in standby. Dreams don’t work unless we do.
