Meet Malcolm X. Lewis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm X. Lewis.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up on the Southside of Atlanta in Clayton County. As a kid, I a little bit of everything music, drawing, and sports. I gravitated more towards sports primarily football. I played football for most of my life until a few injuries set back my playing career, I decided to find something else I really enjoyed doing. A close friend of mind needed help covering an event. He brought me along and put a camera in my hand and he was impressed with what I shot. Ever since then I have had a camera in my hand.

Please tell us about your art.
I like to capture moments that make someone feel something as well as tells a story. I want to give people an experience similar to watching a movie or going to an amusement park with just a picture. To be able to talk to someone, hear their thoughts and be able to manifest them into a visual work of art is a fun and satisfying challenge. For someone to look at my work and it improves their mood or sparks an idea or simply puts a smile on a face means a lot to me.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Art is very subjective. Not everyone will like or appreciate your art, but it will be many people that do. You will hear negative things from many people telling you that you shouldn’t be doing this, send your time doing something else or just you suck. But they’re a number of people that see your art and immediately have a connection to your art. Those people often want to connect with you. So my advise would be to keep making your art the way you want to and to ask for feedback about your art from random strangers rather it’s on social media or in a gallery and focus on the positive thoughts and feedback. From what I have experienced, those with the positive feedback are normally artist that have or had that same lonely feeling and are willing to connect with other artists.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
