Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road! I’ve had all types of struggles throughout my journey. Financial issues. Eviction notices. No electricity. Cell phone cut. No internet. No food. No car. No teammates to depend on. Empty promises. Hard drives crashing losing all of a clients footage. You name it. I mean I’ve had music videos being premiered on MTV and I’d have to call a friend to record it for me with their cellphones because I didn’t have cable. I remember having to sit outside of a friends apartment just to steal their wifi. I believe the struggles people go through are necessary though. Learning lessons. It’s our testimony for when we make it big. The struggles are what keeps us motivated to keep going.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DNA Videos story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a director, editor, and creative director, and I have directed music videos for artists including 2 Chainz, Jeezy, Diddy, Rick Ross, Yo Gotti, Big Krit and many more. With millions of views, my projects have been premiered & featured on major platforms including MTV, BET, VH1, RevoltTV, WSHH & more. I was also nominated as a semi-finalist in the Los Angeles CineFest, for directing a music video called “Fruits & Vegetables”.
I am most proud of all of my accomplishments thus far. I myself have filmed a lot of the artists I once used to watch on TV. I have had the pleasure of flying all over the states and out of the country because of my work.
What sets me apart from other directors is my quality and I direct – shoot – AND edit – all of my projects.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The film industry changes constantly. With new technology being created every day, there are always new cameras to film with, new lenses, faster computers to edit on, it moves so fast but you must move with the shift. Video will make up 82 percent of all internet traffic in 2021, according to forecasts released by Cisco. Video accounted for 73 percent of traffic in 2016. Not only are people watching more online video, they’re also watching better quality video, sapping more bandwidth.
