Conversations with the Inspiring Amanda Henry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Henry.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amanda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m originally from Boynton Beach, Florida. I moved to the northwest Atlanta area in 2006. I always had a desire to do something more outside of the corporate world. Something outside of the comfort zone of the norm I grew up to know. Growing up, I didn’t get to go on a family vacation or to try new things. I only watched TV hoping that one day, I would be able to physically see the places and things that were only in tube reach.

Once I was an adult, I began to travel, I started off small taking road trips here and there. Then later, cruises and eventually domestic. I would plan these trips with family and my friends and I loved it. The entire idea of researching a new place, looking at the menus and looking at things to do.

Then, in August of 2015, my life changed forever, I was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer at age 38. Threw that journey fighting for my life it open my eyes to the possibility. It changed my entire outlook on life it changed me as a person. I had to reevaluate my entire life and ponder had I done what I wanted to do in this life, thus far. It was time for me to invest in me, love me, and put me first.

I finally applied for my passport and started to travel international visiting places such as Paris, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Aruba to name a few. While continuing to plan the entire trip and daily itinerary for me, my family and friends that travel with me.

While at a retreat, I met a woman who was a travel agent and I asked her how could I become a travel agent. She gave me the information and after a few months, I decided it was time, that this was it, the moment I had been waiting for to do something on my own to help other dreams come true as I had hope for mines.

My business name is Dreams 2 Reality Travel. I created this name because growing up traveling seemed so out of reach for me and I want to help others dreams come you. Helping them understand that any budget can afford a nice getaway. Giving them something different as a travel agent, going every step of the way, making them feel secure and to know to trust me with their travel needs was the best decision they could have made.

I plan to continue to go far in the travel business and help others become travel agents as well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When you feel that your business isn’t growing as fast as you feel, it should. Remember every business had to go through a process of the beginning, it’s not just you. Things of value take precious time to create and your gift, your birthing is going to be perfect. Remember giving up isn’t an option, no matter how long it takes, tomorrow could be your day get to tomorrow.

What should we know about Dreams 2 Reality Travel? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in all travel, cruises, getaway, domestic and international vacations. I also bring under on my team who what to become travel agents or travel reps. I constantly stay in contact with my team, keeping them updated on new information. Giving them tips and always being available to answer questions and encourage them.

What set me apart I care, I treat my client’s trips as if they were my own. I research the place they plan to vacation to educate my self and to provide the most updated information available. I reach out to my client a few days before their travel date to give them some additional tip and some relaxing words.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Yes, a huge part when you’re a young kid and you watch TV and all you have is your imagination. You don’t even know if the things you see are really real because you never saw them in your actual life. Growing up, I didn’t get to go on family trips or to stay in a hotel. It sounds sad as I type this, but I wanted to be a patrolman so bad when I was in 5th grade just to experience something different.

Which I set my mind from like a 1st grade to become a patrolman, I became one, I went to Washington and stayed in a hotel for the first time.
