Meet Najah K.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Najah K.

Najah K. a 17-year old entrepreneur with passions and talents beyond the normal. At the age of 12, she picked up her first digital camera and knew this would be one object she could never live without. Constantly challenging herself, she begins to take photography more seriously by networking with friends and family, creating her own visual projects, and showcasing many pieces at art shows in Downtown Atlanta. Everyday the world continues to show her that her biggest enemy is herself and no one can stand in her of achieving what she wants. This is Najah K. Photography.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wish, I wish, I wish! Given that this is a business I began at 13 years-old there were numerous challenges that I’ve had to navigate. For example, time management is a big lesson teenager have to learn throughout high school and with me managing photography appointments, making time for school work, and also being an active participant in school extracurricular activities. I had to learn how to manage my time most effectively, as well as produce quality photographs and videos to ensure optimal customer satisfaction. Another example is originality. Sounds simple enough right? Not really (smile). When you’re an artist, majority of your influences are visual which makes it easy to unknowingly emulate ideas from others as you may be captivated by the beauty of what’s displayed. For me, I had to always remember to ensure trust my own eye, my own angles, my own perspective, and ask myself “What story is this photo telling?” Or while I’m shooting a video “How many stories can I tell in the one scene to ensure my audience is paying attention?” This is the true essence of my “light” as a visual artist. This is what set me apart from others, this is what draws others into your work and makes people want to work with you. With the assistance of my business manager (my momager as I like to say—she’s my rock!), I was able to learn how to balance time, learn the business side of my craft to ensure profitability, identify marketing opportunities which helped to construct my social media, showcase, and individual presence, as well as implement key values that set my photography, videography business apart from others. Things like professionalism, providing encouraging environments, developing fast turnarounds, gaining editing certifications, and developing creative originality in all of my work!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Najah K. Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Najah K. Photography is more than just a photography business. With me (Najah K.), my talents are constantly growing and I specialize in videography and photography. When interacting with clients, it is very important that I am able to make the shoots more personable; rather than a photoshoot just being a “Hey my name is ___, can you pose like this” I enjoy getting to know my clients, making them laugh, or having to tell me about themselves. This gives me the most natural looking and casual photos as possible. As a company, I am proud to say each client I have interacted with has been more than impressed with my work and love to refer me to others as well as come back and bring their family members for photoshoots (which is pretty cool after seeing their initial shock of finding out I’m a teenager!) I love seeing my customers happy with their experience and the photos I was able to capture. In addition, I also enjoy using my creativity to develop what clients may ask for but don’t necessarily know how to translate it into a visual. This allows me as a photographer to initiate an innovative concept, develop ideas with lighting, backdrops, or even identify specific types clothing, hairstyles, props, and locations, and incorporate each detail that needs to be conveyed.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Najah K. Photography will definitely be seeing a few upcoming exciting changes, seeing that I am going to start my first year of college in August I will be planning more Downtown Atlanta based shoots, joining additional art showcases, and extending my clientele. I am also consistently updating my website and Instagram interfaces to keep things constantly flowing and exciting. To forward my business I will also be opening up a blog on my YouTube channel revolving around the lifestyle of being a young entrepreneur and full-time student to share with everyone how I overcome my obstacles and challenges, seek new inspiration, and deliverance new and captivating visual arts projects and videos! This is my most exciting plan and I can’t wait to see where it takes me. I’m hopeful that people will stay tuned because I got a LOT coming up!
