Today we’d like to introduce you to Ms Dime.
Ms Dime, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started with my company Blooms Essentials a year ago. I always like to have multiple sources of income at the same time. I knew I wanted to do something that everybody else wasn’t doing. I started doing my research and that’s when I came up with a body and skincare line for men, women, and children.
I make Soaps, Beard Oil, Body Scrubs, Bath Bombs and I even have an all organic plant-based facial cleaner line. I’m based out of Atlanta, Ga but I do most of my sales online or word of mouth from previous customers. None of my products have chemicals in them, they’re all with natural ingredients.
My soaps are specialized for people who have sensitive skin or suffer from eczema or acne. We use goat’s milk in our soaps to give the skin a soft silk feeling and with our products, it replenishes the natural oils in the skin, so your skin isn’t feeling dry once you get out of the shower.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a business owner is never easy, I for one face many challenges on a daily basis one is me being a woman and I’m African American. It’s hard penetrating into this industry without the proper knowledge or support, so I read every day more and more about different skin care treatments and oils that I can incorporate into my business, so I can be better than my competitor and win the audience of my peers.
I would tell any business women to stay focus give up nothing is easy if you want it bad enough, you’ll make it happen. Just like when you first start a job, you have to be consistent to be the best at what you do in order to be the best in your department and that’s what you have to be in this industry. You have to be a beast stay hungry and always be ready to learn and take criticism.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Blooms Essentials LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
I have many trades. I make homemade body scrubs, Soaps, Beard Oil, sea salts. I can’t name just one thing that I am known for because I do so many people love me all around. I have a non-profit call the Kings and Queens of Tomorrow, that organize help with back to school supplies, tutoring, mentoring. I started that organization about four years ago when I have seen how bad our youth need us to educate them beyond school time.
One of my greatest accomplishments is just doing everything that I told myself I would do. It doesn’t matter if I failed at it or succeeded, just knowing I went after something I wanted to do was good enough for me.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I feel like every opportunity that is giving to a woman is either giving to her by another woman or by someone she knows. Women have to deal with so much to prove that we are worthy of getting the job done. We have to talk just as fast and just as proper then the next. We always have to explain why we should get an opportunity when our resume has already done so for us. If there wasn’t a handbook stating that companies had to hire a certain amount of women, I think men would never have us in a workplace or they’ll have a few around just to look at.
