Conversations with the Inspiring Kelly Young-Silva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Young-Silva.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kelly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My goal for the past two decades has been to help others see the value of Performing Arts. I opened Words In Motion Acting Studio in 2012 after two years of teaching at various studios and locations. I wanted people to understand the benefits of the Performing Arts. Learning this art can help advance every area of your life. Flashing back: During this time there was great excitement in Georgia as film productions started using Georgia as a film hub. Many of us had been doing theatre for years, at this time, I was Vice President of Douglasville Community Theatre. I had invested years into this craft and entertained dozen of audiences as well as directed numerous events and shows. I was part of improv shows and even helped run a Stand-up Comedy Company. We were all serious about our work and were truly devoted to our performance. It was a beautiful time in my life. However, I felt that I needed to give more and I felt like I need to start with kids. I opened Words In Motion Acting Studio, we simply showed kids how to put their words in motion.

Many of us grown-up Actors had started working on camera and as filming was growing we were able to work on real movie sets. I started teaching all that I knew and was still learning. I taught in an area that the Performing Arts has never really been respected. It has been a challenge. It has offered great rewards along with severe headaches. I was surprised when people from different areas started noticing the work I was doing and started asking for advice. Many allowed me to be part of things they were doing, I gladly accepted as I have always seen this art as a team effort.

In 2016, I met a wonderful man from the foreign land of Colombia on a film set. We fell in love and married. My name changed from Kelly Young-Lively to Kelly Young -Silva. In 2017, my husband Diego Silva Acevedo, and I started, “Kelly Talk Show.” This is a show to further my goal of spreading the arts to others. It is a perfect blend of what I do in my studio and what we all do in our communities. It highlights the artist and also shows our development in the Atlanta Film Industry. Many of us in Atlanta have learned by doing and we have helped build the industry. We are proud of what we have accomplished here in Georgia and are grateful for the opportunities that we have. I personally feel I live in the best time of all history. I look forward to every new day. Our studio now works with Children as well as Adult Actors. Our students have booked on various TV shows, movies, and commercials.

Has it been a smooth road?
The most challenging part of running a business is educating people as to why your business is valuable. When opening a business location is important. You will find areas that have received education to benefit the growth of a business, and some areas that have not. If you have a business that people do not understand, you will have to educate them as to why it is valuable. Teaching people the value of the Actor has been my greatest challenge. Atlanta continues to grow in Film Production, as it grows my mission to show benefit also grows. People now see the training as an investment that leads to an Acting Career. Words In Motion Acting Studio trains actors to be players in the market.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Kelly Talk Show and Words In Motion Acting Studio story. Tell us more about it.
The best way to learn about our work is to watch our show. Words in Motion Acting Studio and Seven Studios developed “Kelly Talk Show.” The show helps you understand what people are putting into their Careers. We are not a fly by night success. Instead, we are years of small achievements that keep adding up. We cover artist that have developed skills over time. The show is to further my mission of educating people and giving you the courage to do what is in your heart. The world needs energy. We need the currency that our energy generates. Each one of us has a natural undying energy that lives in us. Energy lives in purpose. I believe with certainty that we are born with a mission. We have an inner voice telling us to walk towards our purpose and as we do, we find gold nuggets. This show, as well as my studio, was created through this very purpose. It is my mission, my words in motion. Kelly Talk Show is found on Facebook and YouTube or Kellytalkshow.com.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
We live in an amazing time of history. We are more open than ever to ideas. Women are gaining more opportunities and often we are “out” performing men. We realize our value. Men can no longer deny us of rights. We are keeping up with our households, our children, and our jobs. Honestly, I believe we are frustrating plenty of men. As we rise to a higher standard, they are also having to rise to a higher standard. The hope is that we provide healthy competition for one another. The hope is that we help one another with the day to day workload. The hope is that we continue to find a need in one another.
