Meet Brian Patrick Flynn of FlynnsideOut in Candler Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Patrick Flynn.

Brian Patrick Flynn is a self-taught interior designer specializing in private residential client-based interiors as well as production design art directing and prop styling sets for TV, print and digital mediums. He got his start behind the scenes as a producer working on the bedroom floor at an NBC affiliate in South Florida in 2003. Flynn merged the two sides of his career by launching his full-service production company FlynnsideOut in 2010.

At FlynnsidieOut, his design and production teams focus on turning home and garden based design projects for residential and corporate clients into content across all platforms.

Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t smooth sailing out of the gate. Brian started his residential design career in 2008 during the economic downtown when people suddenly stopped spending money on their homes. With hundreds of professional photos of his work to share, and design magazines folding left and right, rendering him with no place to pitch them, he decided to share his experiences and obstacles as a self-taught designer in an ever-evolving industry online. He shifted from projects with all custom-made elements to those more budget-conscious with a focus on high-low and choosing only things that would stand the test of time but in an outside-the-box manner. All of these complications in the ever-changing landscape of interior design are what propelled Flynn into his meteoric rise as one of the most respected professionals in his field.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Aside from Fortune 500 companies, high profile private clients in the entertainment, business and sports industries, Brian is currently the designer of two HGTV home giveaway series: HGTV Dream Home and HGTV Urban Oasis. Flynn designs the houses with his design team, and once they’re camera ready, he and his production team meticulously art direct and prop style every room for TV, digital and print mediums. Of all projects, Brian is most proud of HGTV Dream Home 2019 in Whitefish, Montana. What sets Brian and his team apart is their massive range: whether it’s a basic new construction home lacking in architectural character, a stunning retreat on top of a mountain, or a luxurious home right smack on the ocean, the team constantly designs something fresh completely unlike any home created before or after it. They believe flexibility is key and adapt every project to the vernacular, client, audience and/or budget and scheduling needs. In fact, Brian once created and executed an entire set for a major event with only 6 hours notice.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Atlanta truly is the Hollywood of the South and there’s plenty of work for all of us here. And with the housing prices being so reasonable, it’s an incredible place to invest in real estate. It’s a great place to start a career because you can live comfortably, plus the mountains are only an hour north and our airport takes us pretty much anywhere on the planet, many times with direct flights.
