Meet Amir Usher of Amir James in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amir Usher.

Amir, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Fashion in some capacity was always at my back door, I just never realized it. Both my parents had their own apparel and accessory lines and watching my older cousin Andre start his brand in college was the seed that stuck with me. I took a liking to being sharp via my upbringing. Growing up looking up to my oldest brother who was fashion forward translated into keeping me in pocket. I was always the guy who wanted to make sure my shoes were in supreme condition all the way up to making sure the collar on my tee shirt was laying flat. Like most people I channeled my energy into what I liked, which in turn put me around people with common interest. Fast forward 2011, Amir James was formed on the campus of Tuskegee University. I just wanted to fill a void in an industry I already heavily participated in.

Has it been a smooth road?
Most times people only get a chance to experience the final result of things, not necessarily taking time to appreciate the process. Thats what makes you. I’ve had the opportunity to experience my share of struggles. One of our biggest was restructuring the brand soon after we started. When there’s a shift in personnel, it directly impacts the direction and operation of your business. We had to learn how take those obstacles as being part of the process and not allow it to derail us from the goal. One thing my grandmother always left me with was “Keep Going” and when I speak it to people its a subtle reminder to myself as well. Bumps and bruises prepare you for your wins. Besides what’s the alternative, stop?

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Amir James – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Amir James is a fashion brand that specializes in Menswear and essentials (crewnecks, crowns, hoodies, jackets, tees, etc.) and just recently adopted women’s and children’s sizes. One of our more known pieces would be the “gods” (Tee/sweatshirt). I’m most proud of being able to share my vision with the world and have it received and appreciated. The mere fact that you created something and someone appreciates it enough to spend the money they worked for on it is always a moment. In a world where every turn is someone saying what you “should” be like, we as a brand simply encourage you to BYRSLF (Be Yourself). Everyone has a voice, we just chose apparel.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
It’s a melting pot of creatives looking to push the culture forward through their own perspectives. Being in a city where you’re around pockets of people who are striving after the same things gives me a sense of togetherness. Whether it’s bouncing ideas off someone who has those experiences or listening to their journey, So far the traffic has been one of my least favorite things about the city. It’s something you adapt to quickly or end up giving your day to it.
