Meet Trailblazer Delores Powell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delores Powell.

Delores, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am the author of The Cool Kid With A Secret. The book is about a 4th grader with a reading disability. While on tour with my book, I noticed that a lot of kids had similar issues as the main character in my book. I was propelled to tell my secret, that the main character actually was me. After hearing heartwarming stories from students about how I helped them, I decided to start an organization that aims at helping youths. That’s how Cool Kids Committee Inc. came about. CKC Inc. is an organization that makes the uncool cool, by helping at-risk youths, victims of Bullying and Bridging the gap with Law Enforcement.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was hard, it’s always hard to get people to believe in you when they don’t see your vision. There will be many doors that may close on you, but the one you need the most will be wide open.

We’d love to hear more about Cool Kids Committee Inc.
We provide programs for at-risk youths, victims of Bullying and children with learning disabilities and challenges. Bringing unity to our community and helping the youth see that they can be bigger and better than their Environment.

We are known for our Basketball program, Step Team, Cooking Classes, 5k Put A Freeze On Bullying, mentoring program, Ladies First, Prom Project and bridging the gap with a twist in our community with law enforcement. Witnessing our youth go from being a problem child to now a high school graduate and on track is our reward. Our youth are like spices and we teach them how to be the main ingredient needed in every recipe in life.
