Today we’d like to introduce you to Sia Amun.
Sia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career in music behind the scenes singing backgrounds and writing songs for artists such as Lady Gaga, Mary J Blige and Trey Songz to name a few. Music is in my blood, it is just a part of who I am and my physical journey here. My dad is the lead singer of the R&B group TROOP, he is also one of the original members of the hit production team “The Underdogs” so I was exposed to the industry at an early age, learning from some of the best to ever do it.
Before fully diving into my solo career as an artist I had a passion for finding and developing talent. I wanted to be like Sylvia Rhone (The woman responsible for signing my dad to Atlantic Records), I curated showcases and events for aspiring artists to perform and network, but after investing so much of myself into others I decided to focus on mastering my craft and being the best version of myself that I possibly could. I spent years songwriting, learning my sound and finding my voice. I ended up in rooms with and around some of the most talented people in the business from Tyrese Gibson to Will I Am.
I jump started my artistry by releasing covers of my favorite songs on sound cloud. As my following grew the covers soon turned into original music. In 2016 I booked a one-way flight to London UK with no idea of what to do, no connections, and nowhere to stay. I put my faith to test and with the 12 songs I recorded I released my 1st official ep “The Blue Dream Project”, sold out my 1st headlining show, got on mainstream radio, and met some of the most amazing people while there. I lived in the UK for five months. I learned so much from that experience that after returning to the states, I packed up my car and drove from Los Angeles to Atlanta, GA to do it all over again.
Starting over is never easy; shit, getting started is the hard part. Moving here was mentally challenging but I was up for it and I’m glad that I did. I’m so grateful to have seen the things that I’ve seen and experienced things that I know other aspiring songwriters, producers and artists dream of experiencing. Back in LA, I was able to create an environment at my studio for creatives to come and fellowship in the name of music and self-love. My goal for Atlanta was to get establish and create that same type of environment, as a result, INTRO was born (@welcometointro on Instagram), a community of entrepreneurs, artists, and writers/producers. My focus with INTRO is on expertly curating the best of the best in music one creator at a time, providing a place and platform for myself and my peers to discover new talent, give back and share our stories with those looking to break into the industry. Real conversations, real bonds, real relationships are built. The first INTRO in Atlanta was on September 28, 2018, featuring some of my good friends Dondria Nicole and The Atomix (Billboard Charting Producers) on the panel.
Along with developing INTRO, I am currently in the studio recording new music and filming for a reality show. My goal is to continue being an inspiration to those following my journey and show them that self-love and trust is key to making their dreams come true.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t believe life is meant to be a smooth road, at least not the beginning of our journey. Struggle builds character and for me, the struggles began at home and from within. Things like insecurities, not feeling good enough or believing that I was “fat” because of what other people said, to the relationships I had with my parents & siblings. It all shaped the way I viewed the world and determined how I would tackle it.
My dad was there to give me advice and guidance whenever I asked but he decided early on that he would not be involved in my career so I had to find my own way, build my own relationships, get over myself and whatever hangups I had in order to make a name for myself and navigate the industry with confidence.
In the entertainment business, you hear so many “no’s” before you finally get that one yes. People are going to say one thing and then do another but you just have to keep going, become a master of your craft and know without a shadow of a doubt that you’re taken care of already and God got you.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a creative and a dot connector. I sing and write songs for a living as well as bring people together. I produce music and events. I am honestly proud of everything that I’ve been able to accomplish, I don’t take any of it for granted but I had to be specific, I am most proud of overcoming some of the most challenging moments in my life, surviving the death of my grandmother who raised me, releasing my 1st ep “The Blue Dream Project” independently and being apart of 2 platinum albums (Lady Gaga and Trey Songz) that will forever be a part of music history.
My humility, my resilience, my tenacity and my love for the world and my purpose is what sets me apart from others that do what I do.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been very outgoing and free-spirited. Growing up I was always singing and getting on everyone’s nerves. I was a big dreamer and had plans to make a difference in the world. I loved reading and still do, learning is my favorite thing to do besides music.
