Meet Chris Lawson of Impwr Visuals in Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Lawson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well I wanted to be a documentarian when I was a kid. I used to watch National geographic shows all the time and thought it was dope how they got the shots up close. Then I didn’t realize they were zoomed in, but I was still like yo I have to do that do that. My interest in editing came from hanging with guys from the skate scene in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham Alabama. We got to tour the country and skate different spots and document the whole thing. I credit guys like Shawn Engler, Charles Dunkle, and Bon Allinson for my intro to the whole video thing. I moved to Atlanta to pursuit music and become a recording engineer. Eventually, after leaving school I started interning for record producer Fatboi. I eventually ended up back in Alabama for a short stint after a lot fell through in Atlanta. It was during this time I connected with a friend of mine named that goes by Peter_HD_Boy_Parker. He put me on a lot of knowledge about the tech aspect of cameras and lenses. We used to create some pretty dope short films and content. I used to shoot with this canon power shot that I thought was pretty cool for what it was. I moved back to Atlanta, started interning at 11th street studios and that taught me more about entrepreneurship and in 8 months that I had learned up to that date. I met a lot of good people there and started building a network. I eventually met my wife who ended up getting me a canon t3. From there I just ran with it and started shooting more. My equipment ended up being stolen out from my car and put a halt on operations. I used that down time to invest in building those around me in the form of promotions, consultation, video editing and audio production. I was able to link back up with a good friend of mine Quinton Thomas around 2017 and from there I made the decision to pursuit photography and video full time.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road hasn’t been all smooth. But the struggle is definitely a great teacher. I experienced jail, homeless, being beyond broke. The hardest obstacle along way was my own mind to be honest. Once I recognized what was already there everything fell into place.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Impwr Visuals – what should we know?
Impwr specializes in visual brand awareness and advancement. We love to bring the world to the product and the product to the world. Visuals are the glue I my opinion.

I try not to follow trends too much when it comes to shooting. The same methods are used, but I like to build from scratch with every client. Having a real relationship always helps. My proudest moment was running into Killer Mike downtown Atlanta and getting to put him on the lens. I felt like everything was all worth it. That was a good day for sure

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Most of all God. But on a mortal level shout out my brother Detrick, my mom and dad, my wife. Kyng drew, Quinton Thomas, Life revolution church, Peter_Hd_Boy_Parker, Quincy Divine, and Steve Fisher, Shout out to every client that ever allowed me to capture you. Whether it was a week ago or a year ago. I genuinely thank you.
