Meet Sheila Sellers of Let’s Move Fitness in Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Sellers.

Sheila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At the time that I opened Let’s Move Fitness, LLC, I was employed as an elementary school teacher in Atlanta. Here’s the story of how Let’s Move Fitness came to be. Let’s Move Fitness came about through the love of my Zumba Fitness classes. I was surfing the Internet and came across a video of a fun and cool exercise class with a strange name. I searched for classes in my area and found none for maybe 2 or 3 years.

As I was entering a local gym, I saw a sign with that strange name on it. It was that class that I saw on the video years earlier. That class began in August 2009 and I was hooked from that point on! I started attending the classes and loved them so much, that I decided to get my license to teach. Soon after getting my license, I was approached to teach Zumba® classes at a huge fitness chain. I was the first Zumba instructor to teach Zumba® with that company in Georgia. I was also teaching classes at other private venues. I was approached during a class by before I started teaching, by a fellow student to lead her sister’s Zumba® party that was to be held in Panama City, Panama. The party was awesome! It was my first international trip teaching a Zumba class.

The Zumba community of instructors and students is very large in the Fayetteville area. One Saturday after one of my classes, I received a phone call and was invited to lunch by a fellow Zumba instructor, during the lunch, I was approached about a Zumba studio in which the owner, who also attended the lunch outing, was wanting to close. I initially did not express an interest, because I thought that the instructor whom invited me was interested. Two months later I saw the owner at a Zumba class and she mentioned that the other instructor was not interested and the space was still available, I took a look at the studio and from there, Let’s Move Fitness was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There were many Zumba instructors and classes that were already established in the Fayetteville area. Many were held at the major fitness centers and gyms. Their classes offered better pricing opportunities, so building the business was somewhat of a struggle. I was also still teaching school and very involved in my children’s activities, so my business hours were limited.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Let’s Move Fitness, LLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a group fitness and more company. We offer classes in several formats of Zumba Fitness, such as Zumba, Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, Zumba Kids, Zumba Sentao and Aqua Zumba. We are mostly knowing for our Zumba classes.

Some of our other group fitness classes include beginners Line Dance and Urban/Step/Country Line Dance.

We are most proud of our aqua fitness program, which includes AcquaPole and AcquaPole Boxing. We are presently the only company in Georgia and one of the few in the USA that offers the AcquaPole fitness program. At present our aqua programs are held in Fayetteville. Once the pools open this summer, we will also hold classes in College Park. Our other aqua fitness classes are Aqua Barre, Aqua Pilates, Aqua Safari, and Aqua Zumba. Kids aqua classes are available.

We add that we are a group fitness and more company, because we offer a little more than fitness. We also host BYOB Paint Parties. We have one of the best artist around! She will have you painting your own pictures as if you are an expert.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plans for the future include adding new classes for teens and youth. We are excited about adding a male step and dance team. We’ve noticed that boys love to dance, but are usually not interested in traditional dance classes. Our classes will include an all-boys step and dance team. It will incorporate step, hip hop, African dance, and more. Other classes will include kids dance fitness and hip hop.
