Meet Jamie Howell of Jamie Howell Photography in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Howell.

Jamie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My photography got started in college in the fall of 2003. Here I worked for the Georgia Tech newspaper (The Technique) photographing news and college sports. In 2005 I took the job of head photo editor there at The Technique. Around the same time, I also photographed my first wedding. Some 11 years later, I have photographed over 300 weddings and have had extensive experience with many different religions, cultures, and backgrounds in the process. It’s been a wonderful and life changing experience for me and I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.

If my career as a photographer has taught me anything it’s that success doesn’t come from education; it comes from passion and drive. That’s what I hope to bring to my photography and provide for my couples.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Making the transition from part time photographer to full time photographer was both scary and difficult. Your entire business strategy changes depending on whether you’re only working on the weekends versus working 6-7 days a week. It’s also been particularly challenging adapting to changing market conditions and new competition.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jamie Howell Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My primary focus is wedding/event photography and portraiture. In addition to traditional American weddings, I also am very popular among the South Asian community here in the Atlanta area. It’s been an adventure learning about different cultures and their wedding traditions. One thing that really sets me apart is my experience in these different styles of weddings.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would really like to learn videography and get good at that. I believe that if I can learn to carry my style of photography over into video work then it can be a huge hit with the couples I work with.
