Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Grant.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My love for art started in middle school. I picked up a paintbrush and grew my creativity from simple paper and cheap paint. Even though I was confident in my art, I knew I would never be the next Picasso, so I wanted to find a way to incorporate my art and make an actual living with my talent. I went to Valdosta State for a year and completed the basics for a business degree but I wasn’t happy, so I transferred to the art institute to pursue graphic design. I learned a lot, but I realized again how miserable I would be at a desk and not using my actual creative talents.
I dabbled into makeup for the first time face painting for my dance team in high school. So when I got my first makeup job as a freelancer for a wedding, it clicked that I could make a living this way. So I freelanced for years then got a position working for a few cosmetic and skin care brands until finally becoming a brand ambassador and makeup artist for NARS cosmetics. Still painting along the way, I discovered new materials and techniques, and finally, in April 2018, I started my business Phaze427. Phaze427 is a brand featuring my art, crystals, and hand designed home decor and accessories. It’s a new brand that I hope to grow and add product to over time, but I am excited to share my talents with the world.
Please tell us about your art.
For years I have loved painting 2d abstract pieces, but within the last few years, my work took a spiritual turn. I love painting chakras and cultural symbols, art that makes you think and want to do some research. I also love art that is simply beautiful so when I discovered resin I started a few series practicing working with loose glitters and mixing mediums. I try to make art for everyone but some pieces I become attached to and have had for years. I want people to appreciate real art again and not just “home decor.” But I appreciate that I am well rounded and can complete commissions based on consumer needs.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
To my fellow artists, the best advice I could give is to continue trying new things and discovering new platforms to display your work and spread creativity and love. I wish I had invested more into my business in the past but everything happens for a reason and timing is everything.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I participate in several art shows in Atlanta when I have the time. I also have an Etsy account for Phaze427, an Instagram account (@phaze427), and anyone can email shopphaze427@gmail.com for commissions or prints.
